North Babylon Returns Strong Core

With his 13th season as head coach of the North Babylon Bulldogs fast approaching,  Steve Corrado looks to build upon an 11-11 season in 2024. Despite the tough ending to the season, Corrado believes that there were plenty of positives to take away from his up and coming Bulldogs squad.

“We went into last season with a lot of questions with our pitching.” Corrado said. “We had graduated literally all of our pitching from the year before. But our younger guys stepped up, in our two playoff games we started two sophomore pitchers. 75% of the innings we pitched last season were by kids in either 10th or 11th grade.”

While the majority of North Babylon’s key players will be returning in 2025, that isn’t the case for All-County shortstop and pitcher Chris Stumpf. Stumpf anchored the bullpen for the Bulldogs in 2024, allowing only one run the entire season. Stumpf is continuing his baseball career at Nassau Community College. Joining Stumpf at NCC is Ariel Nunez.

The beauty of having a young squad is that many of them return, and the Bulldogs have the luxury of numerous key players this season. The team will be led by reigning All-League returner Tristan Garcia, the center fielder and left handed pitcher. Tommy Morton, a right handed pitcher and first baseman is also All-League. Garcia and Morton make up a pair of talented juniors who are expected to be at the forefront of the Bulldogs in 2025.

“Tristan and Tommy are a huge part of our pitching staff.” Corrado said. “Tristan tore his ACL playing football in August, so he’s not getting a lot of winter work, but he’s expected to be cleared before the season begins. Tommy missed the first week or so last season, but he came on and he hit really well. He’ll be batting in the middle of the order as well. Tommy put us in a position to win every game he started last year”

Entering his final season with the Bulldogs, senior outfielder/pitcher Jordan Konig has been battling injuries over the last number of seasons. However, with his final high school season on the horizon, Corrado can’t wait to see Konig bring his impact back to the team.

“He played for us as a sophomore but got injured.” Corrado said. “He came back last season and looked great for us but got injured again right before the beginning of the season. We only got 20 at bats out of him. He’s back this winter, he looks great, healthy and we’re very excited to plug him back in the middle of our lineup when the season begins. We expect big things out of Jordan.”

Senior outfielder/pitcher Tim Camier had his crowning moment last season when he combined for a no hitter along with Stumpf. As a starter, Camier finished the 2024 season with a 4-1 record and a 2.90 ERA. Tim’s twin brother Ryan Camier is also expected to be part of the Bulldogs pitching staff. Both Ryan and Tim are committed to play at Old Westbury beginning next season.

“We’re looking forward to having Tim, Tristan, Tommy and Ryan lead our pitching staff.” Corrado said.

Corrado also mentioned senior catcher Daniel Goodis, who Corrado expects to provide strong defense behind the plate and to continue his improvement at the plate throughout his junior season. Goodis won the job last season, and now firmly owns the starting spot, Corrado is eager to see how Goodis does in his second season as starting catcher.

“We expect Daniel to bat in the middle of the order this year.” Corrado said. “He has some great leadership qualities. By the end of last year, he really had stepped up as one of the real leaders of our team. It’s great for him coming into this season knowing he’s going to be behind the plate, and not worrying about having to compete for that position.”

Sophomore James Mieszerski is expected to serve as North Babylon’s swiss army knife, having the ability to play all over the diamond including at the catcher position.

In the Bulldogs second set of twins, juniors Aidan and Jake Walsh, who also play basketball, will be competing for playing time both in the field and on the mound for the Bulldogs in 2025. TJ Oppedisano, who was a JV call up during the 2024 season, batted over .400 after being called up, primarily plays the infield.

When it comes to the Bulldogs biggest strength, it comes with the experience on the mound. Last season gave many pitchers the opportunity to grow, and 2025 is the season where much of that growth will pay off in bunches.

North Babylon will open their season against Copiague.
