Up Next Powered by Ken Kortright State Farm Agency: Logan Lamberson

(This is the seventh installment of the popular “Up Next” series in which we highlight the top underclassmen on Long Island. Previously, we featured Dylan Weinstein, Jaxson Torres, Richie Roberts, Joe Maxwell, Dom Muccia and Fred Klauck. Special thanks to Ken Kortright State Farm Agency for sponsoring this year’s series.)

2024 was a tremendous season for Logan Lamberson.

He batted .541 (98-for-181), with 20 doubles, 8 triples, 34 HRs, 124 RBIs, 104 runs scored, 60 walks and 60 stolen bases. Just a remarkable season by any metric, even if much of it occurred on the small fields. He did show a glimpse of the future in the fall when he transitioned to the 90′ foot bases. His head coach, Mike Herbst, estimated that about 8 of his homers occurred on the Town of Brookhaven fields which are normal high school distances. Even more impressive is that he’s producing these numbers as a catcher.

He will be attending Connetquot HS, a perennial powerhouse on Long Island. He will certainly be a player to watch in the future.

His hitting coach, Anthony Anzalone had the following to say:

“I’ve been working with Logan the past three offseasons. Each year, he has come off of big summers. The most impressive thing is, no matter how great he did, he’s always ready to hit the reset button and work on things to improve. He’s a very humble kid, and you’d never know what his previous season’s stats were unless you pried the info out of him. He loves to work, is coachable and has a huge future ahead!”

I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say…

This year you put up a monster season at the plate. What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my hard work in the batting cage in the offseason. Taking lessons with my batting coach weekly, Anthony Anzalone. Practicing my defensive skills with my coaches and teammates at practices in the facility. My parents support me by encouraging me to be the best that I can be.

How would you describe your time with the Top Tier Aviators? Do you like playing for Coach Herbst?

Coach Herbst and Coach Lorefice push me every practice to work as hard as I can. They create tough practices while still making it fun. They taught me how to carry myself when things are not going my way. They have seen me at my best and during my worst slumps and have always been encouraging. I’ve been on Top Tier for 3 years and every year is an opportunity to learn and experience new things. I have had the chance to grow with my team and make lifelong fiends.

Was baseball always your No. 1 sport? Do you play other sports?

Baseball has always been my No. 1 sport. I love being on the field whether it’s a day game or night game. I love playing new teams, being in the dugout with my teammates and traveling to different tournaments. I also play football. I started playing football for Connetquot PAL 12u two years ago. Now it’s become my other favorite sport. I play for the Oakdale Bohemia MS team as a running back. In the past, I played other sports like soccer and basketball.

Any family members that played college sports?

My mom played Division-I softball and tennis for Rider University. My dad played football at Stony Brook University.

What are your looking to work on this offseason?

I am looking forward to working on getting bigger and stronger. I have been eating really healthy and concentrating on hitting. I take weekly lessons and hit on my own twice a week. When the weather is not that cold out, I go down to the field and work on taking ground balls at 3rd base.

What has been your most thrilling moment on a baseball field?

One of my most rewarding moments happened this past summer at Cooperstown. Our team made it to the quarterfinals and in that game I hit a grand slam off of a really fast pitcher. It was the perfect time.

What are your goals for 2025?

I try to have a goal every game. Sometimes it’s just to make contact and sometimes it’s to make sure I know the count of every batter when I’m in the dugout. But for the 2025 season, my goal is to get selected for the PG National Team. In the past, I have been selected to go to the tryouts, but never to the big tournament in Texas or Florida.

Favorite player in Major League Baseball?

My favorite player in the MLB is Aaron Judge because he is a great player. I have been a Yankee fan forever. I have only been to Yankee Stadium one time and watched him play in person. He hits absolute bombs and has a really good arm. One thing that I really like about him is the way he carries himself on the field. He never argues with an umpire or slams his bat down when he strikes out. I am trying to follow his attitude during my games.

Favorite movie?

My favorite movie is “The Field of Dream” because it is about baseball. I like the way it’s kind of an older movie. It has a really good storyline from the beginning to the end. I really like how it shows old baseball players and talks about the things they did during their time. I sometimes wish that I was alive during the old days of baseball. Going to the old games and getting old baseball cards sounds really fun.

Walkup song for next year?

My walkup song would be “Whip It” by BigXthaPlug. It really gets me motivated to hit.

Favorite app on your phone?

My favorite app on my phone would be Instagram and Snapchat. I like Instagram because I can keep in touch with different people. There are so many people that talk about baseball and how to get recruited, or what to eat, or coaches giving really good tips about fielding and hitting. I have been watching a lot of catching videos lately and some of the tips have helped me out on the field. I love Snapchat because it allows me to connect with my friends at school and on my team.

Favorite restaurant on Long Island?

My favorite restaurant on Long Island would be Lombardi’s On the Bay. The food is always really good there. I really like their bacon cheeseburger. The fries are really good too. Plus it’s down on the water and when I go there with my family, we always ask for a window seat so we can look out at the bay.

Any pregame superstitions?

I don’t exactly have a superstition, I kind of believe that if it’s meant to be it’s meant to be. But I do listen to music before every game. It keeps me focused and relaxed.

Favorite vacation spot?

My favorite vacation spot is PA in the winter. I go snowboarding with my family and we go to indoor water parks. Snowboarding was really hard when I was first learning but that is what made me like it. Once I saw that I could do it, it made me really happy to see I was doing it on my own. Plus I love a good water park. My favorite rides are the tube rides. They go really fast and you never know what the next turn will look like.

Favorite holiday?

My favorite holiday is Christmas because I get to see my whole family and spend time with them. We host dinner every year on Christmas and I love it. My aunts and uncles and grandparents all come over. The house is filled with people and everyone has a story to tell. A lot of them are really funny. Plus it’s my dad’s birthday so we have an ice cream cake too.
