Jayden Stroman signed his financial agreement to attend Duke University.
Baseball fans are certainly familiar with his older brother, Marcus, who also graduated from Patchogue-Medford and attended Duke University where he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the 2012 draft. He debuted in the big leagues in 2014 and just helped lead the New York Yankees to capturing the American League pennant.
Jayden attended the Stony Brook School in 2021, 2022 and 2023 before heading to Florida to attend IMG Academy in 2024. His decision to head back home to attend Pat-Med for the 2025 season certainly has ripple effects on Suffolk County baseball.
For starters, it puts more eyes on Long Island baseball for the upcoming season as Stroman has a strong chance of being selected in the upcoming MLB Draft. That means more scouts and crosscheckers coming to his games which is a net positive for the baseball community. Pat-Med players are accustomed to this, as Josh Knoth attracted scouts to his games in droves just two years ago.
Additionally, this impacts the landscape of Suffolk County baseball as his presence alone makes Pat-Med a threat to win the League and potentially compete for a County Championship – which they have never done.
Stroman’s decision to attend Duke University might’ve seemed like a no-brainer considering his last name, but it almost didn’t happen. According to his father, Jayden’s first choice was Stanford and his second option was LSU. He was visiting Stanford when Duke came in with an offer he couldn’t refuse and the rest, as they say, is history.
He signed his financial agreement to attend Duke University, with the school honoring a 4-year, full scholarship to him – which is exceptionally rare in college baseball.
Playing against elite competition at IMG Academy was a pretty good litmus test for him, but the ACC is certainly no walk in the park. According to his father, Duke has made a strong commitment to developing their freshmen which is one of the reasons they were enticed to make the decision to commit there.
In the meantime, Jayden has his senior season to play. To prepare, he will run track in the winter as he hopes to improve his speed. He already has plus speed – as he runs a 6.4 60-yard dash.

He’s a switch-hitting shortstop and pitcher. His fastball is 96-97 MPH, and he has a max exit velocity of 99 MPH to go along with his foot speed.
Jayden had the following to say:
“It was a long experience for me coming out of freshman year there was a lot of options on the table. But my parents always pushed for academics first, and there really is no better school than Duke in terms of academics and baseball in the ACC. It was the best decision for me.”
Head coach Anthony Frascogna had the following to say:
“We’re excited to have him back – he’s a great kid. He’s already fitting in with the team and he’s been working out with our infield. He’s already played a couple fall games and he’s made his presence well known. We’re excited for him to have a great year and continue his growth to get him ready for the next level.”
