Wantagh Park played host to a 12u ECYB matchup between the RVC Tigers Blue and NBNM Rebels Saturday afternoon.
The Rebels’ bats wasted no time getting the scoring started Saturday, striking for four runs in the first inning. The Rebels recorded just one hit in the first, but they also drew four walks, three of them with bases loaded, leading to three quick runs.
The fourth run came across for the Rebels when Liam Hanley scored from third base on a wild pitch. That gave the Rebels a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first inning.
Despite falling behind early, the Tigers were able to answer immediately in the bottom of the first. After three walks and a sacrifice fly, two runs were doubled in by Luca Coughlin, making it 4-3. A few batters later, an RBI triple by Gavin Dunphy gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead.

Neither team scored in the second inning, but the game’s final run came in the bottom of the third. Coughlin attempted to steal third base, and a throwing error by the Rebels catcher allowed him to score, giving the Tigers a two run lead.
From this point on both teams played exceptional defense, and neither offense could muster much of anything.
It was a quickly paced game, and proved to be a pitcher’s duel throughout. Matthew Bifulco pitched the final two innings for the Tigers, and did not allow a run across his two frames of work, earning the RVC Tigers Blue a hard fought 6-4 victory over the NBNM Rebels.
