Jalen Josey Commits to Stony Brook University

Coming off a magical ride in 2023 which included capturing the NY State Catholic League Championship, it was a bit of a youth movement for the Holy Trinity Titans. Even so, they were able to get hot at the right time and reach the CHSAA Finals against St. Anthony’s.

Josey was a bright spot for the Titans. After getting called up from JV halfway through the season, all he did was go 12-for-38 (.316) with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 10 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He came through with a clutch game-tying hit in extra innings of the finals.

This past week he announced his verbal commitment to Stony Brook University.

I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say…

Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Stony Brook?

My experience with the recruiting process was shorter than expected but God had his plan for me. I had to be patient and trust Him. I chose Stony Brook because it is a great academic school along with a family like atmosphere. On the baseball side, it is a winning program, close to home and the coaches have amazing knowledge.

Was baseball always your No. 1 sport?

I started baseball at 6 and I played basketball, ran track and did swimming. After I turned 10 years old, I started to take baseball more serious.

Any family members that played college sports?

My uncle, Stephen McGuire, played football at the University of Miami and got inducted to their Hall of Fame, and played football in the NFL for the 49ers, Cowboys and Dolphins.

Who are some people that have had a positive impact on your life?

My parents helped me out the most in my career always keeping me motivated and focused on my goal.

Favorite players in Major League Baseball?

Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Juan Soto, I love the energy they bring.

Do you work with any private instructors?

I hit with Zach Goldstein, pitch with Glenn Mitchell and do speed and strength work with Onix Salva.

What was the atmosphere like in the Catholic League Championship against St. Anthony’s?

The atmosphere was crazy. I loved playing I front of my friends and family under the lights with a lot of people watching. I had the game-tying hit in extra innings and just watching everyone scream and cheer for us was an amazing feeling.
