GAME RECAP: Next Level and 110 Baseball Finish in 3-3 Tie at Long Island Lutheran

Next Level and 110 Baseball faced off Wednesday night in a Long Island Boys of Summer 16u National Division league game.

Coming into the matchup, Next Level sat atop the division with a record of 2-0 and a +11 run differential. While 110 was 0-1 and had a -6 run differential.

This game didn’t feature a lot of offense from either side, finishing with a 3-3 tie once the final out was made.

Next Level started the game with a run in the first inning. Jack Regan doubled to deep left-center field and was eventually brought in with a sacrifice fly by Jake Ganulin.

110 would go on to tie it up in the bottom of the first. They loaded the bases and Zach Adelstein was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run. Next Level starting pitcher Tony Cardone ended the first with a strikeout, stranding all three men on base.

The next three innings featured no scoring by either side.

Superb pitching by 110’s Jack Zagariello contributed to that. He struck out 4 batters and didn’t allow a baserunner in 2 innings of work.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, 110 took their first lead of the ball game. They loaded the bases once again, this time scoring 2 runs. Both of them came in on RBI walks by Jake Maxwell and Zach Adelstein.

The 6th inning would be the last in this one due to time limit. Next Level came up to bat down 3-1 and needed to score if they wanted to keep the game going.

Liam Baker and Mark Vera both pinch hit and reached base, Baker with a single and Vera with a hit by pitch. Baker would come around to score when 110’s catcher overthrew second base on a double steal.

With a runner on third and two outs in the inning, James Millman came up to bat and struck out. But he reached first on an overthrow of first base on the dropped third strike, which brought Vera around to score and tie the game up for Next Level.

Finn Rummerie shut the door on 110 Baseball in the bottom half of the 6th, which ended the game at a 3-3 tie.

Dylan Payano led the offense for 110 Baseball, he went 2-for-2 with a walk and scored 2 of his team’s 3 runs.

He spoke with Axcess Baseball following the game.

“I just had a simple approach,” Payano said, “see the ball and hit it, and it worked out for me today.”

Payano also spoke on what happened to force the tie, “In the last inning, we had a couple of mistakes and mental errors, and we walked away with a tie.”

Next Level moves to 2-0-1 on the summer, while 110 Baseball is now 0-1-1.
