Showtime Select Capture 3rd Annual Kings Point Classic

On the campus of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Showtime Select 15u stood tall against some talented competition on their way to winning the 3rd annual Kings Point Classic.

Joe Fusco’s squad compiled an unblemished record of 3-0 during pool play taking down 5 Star Mafia (7-4), LI Dodgers Nation Select (9-5) and LIB Prime (12-0) before taking on MP Citius in the Finals which began at 5pm on a beautiful Sunday evening.

The crowd, which was packed with parents of fans of each club, was treated to an exceptional ballgame which featured a back-and-forth affair.

Ultimately, Showtime Select came away with an 8-6 victory thanks in large part to a relentless offense that scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth. The go-ahead hit came on a two-run double by Ray Kim (St. Dominic 2027), and they added an insurance run on a wild pitch that scored Kim.

Southpaw AJ Conza (Massapequa 2027) was outstanding, firing five strong innings of relief of Anthony Scaglione. He struck out nine batters, allowing just five hits and 1 ER.

Showtime Select, a collection of some of the best players on Long Island, put on quite a show this weekend, and if it’s any indication of what’s to come, they have an exciting summer of baseball ahead.

The Kings Point Classic featured 8 teams in the 15u level:

Showtime Select

MP Citius

5 Star Mafia

LIB Prime

LI Dodgers Nation Select

LI Huskies

LI Elite

South Shore Elite

In addition to playing 3 games on the best field on Long Island, they also had music playing between innings and the players had their names announced prior to their at bats which gave it a professional style feel.

Overall, it was a ton of fun and great baseball. We were fortunate to have great weather. Special thanks to Lou Bernardi and Ray Bartoszek for making this event possible!
