A great championship game was halted due to weather on Monday at Wantagh Park between the Bayside Yankees and the Dream Chasers. They both became 11u Co-Champions of the Memorial Day Clash for ECYB after a 3-3 draw in the 5th inning.
The Dream Chasers came out strong in the first two innings and poured on the pressure with three runs in the first three innings of the game. It started in the first with back-to-back shingles from Mike Sacco and Lucas Samuel, followed by a grounder by Dylan DeMichiel that plated Sacco.

Later in the Inning, Ronan Mooney would send a thundering shot to left field for an RBI double to make it 2-0.
After the calm second inning seemed to be the eye of the storm, the Dream Chasers would add on one more run in the third inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by Mooney, his second RBI of the game.
That is when the Bayside Yankees stormed back. Danny Acevado started the offensive run with a single, followed by a walk by Alex Hirschfield. This set the stage for Jesse Baldassare, who would crack a deep single right back up the middle. This allowed Acevado to score easily from third. The CF for the Dream Chasers then tried to throw out Baldassare at first but overthrew him, allowing Hirschfield to walk in as well.
The Yankees wouldn’t stop there, as in the bottom of the fourth, they tied up the game with amazing production from the bottom of the order. This inning started with some adversity as the first two batters went down.
Ryan Sutter changed that luck when he walked to kickstart some offense. Sutter then stole both second and third to put himself in prime position to score for Christian Cannone. Cannone slapped the ball down the first base line, bounced right over first base and dribbled down the foul line to score Sutter and tie the game.
It was at this point the rain started to fall. The Dream Chasers started off the top of the 5th inning with a double from Dylan DeMichiel (went 2-3 on the day with two doubles and an RBI) and a single from Felix Steelman, the power duo on the team. As soon as the first flash of lightning was seen, the game was paused and never resumed.
This allowed both teams to leave as Co-Champions and both teams qualified for their tournament in New Jersey.
