by Max Edelman

Hofstra:

The Hofstra Pride suffered a difficult defeat at the hands of the UNC Wilmington Seahawks 13-3 on the road on Friday. The Pride see their playoff hopes take a big hit, after struggling mightily against the Seahawks.

Santino Rosso, Will Kennedy and Luke Masiuk each had one RBI for the Pride. After his best start of the year a week ago, Michael O’Hanlon failed to build off of that momentum. In only 22 innings, O’Hanlon allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and only struck out one. O’Hanlon was charged with his fourth loss of the season.

For the Seahawks, Kevin Jones led the way with 3 RBIs, and Jacob Shafer was the winning pitcher.

The Pride are 20-29 with a 10-12 CAA record and will play the Seahawks again on Saturday.

Stony Brook:

The Stony Brook Seawolves narrowly defeated the Delaware Blue Hens 3-2 at home. An early 3-0 lead was enough for the Seawolves to pick up a pivotal series opening game against the Blue Hens.

All three Seawolf runs came in the fourth and fifth inning. Matt Brown-Eiring drove in a run on a double, Cam Santerre drove in a run on a single and Erik Paulsen also had an RBI double. Colin Rhein started the game, tossing 6.1 innings, striking out two and allowed two runs on five hits for what was his fourth win of the year. Paulsen also picked up his sixth save of the year.

The Seawolves are 24-23 and will resume their series against Delaware on Saturday.

Fordham:

The Fordham Rams were shutout at home at the hands of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Rams 4-0. Fordham only managed five hits in the game, but were unable to drive in any runs in the contest.

Cian Sahler was the only Fordham player to have multiple hits with two. Declan Levalle started the game for Fordham. In six innings, Lavelle struck out six and allowed four runs on seven hits for his fifth loss of the season.

The Rams drop to 19-28 and will look to rebound with another game against VCU Saturday.

Molloy:

The Molloy Lions move on to the finals of the East Coast Conference with a 10-1 dominating victory over the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. The Lions look to win the ECC on home turf, and are one win away from doing just that.

Gavin McAlonie had a great day for the Lions, collecting four RBIs. Sean Welsh also played well collecting two RBIs. Four other Lions had one RBI. JC Kiss was the winning pitcher for the Lions and he dominated. Kiss tossed seven innings of one run ball while striking out six and picking up the win.

Molloy moves on to the ECC final against D’Youville, needing one game to capture the Championship, while D’Youville will need to beat them twice. Molloy won the Championship in 2021 and 2022, while losing to Queens in 2023.

Queens:

The Queens College Knights saw their season come to an end in the semi finals of the East Coast Conference tournament with a 3-1 loss to the D’Youville Saints. Despite nine hits, offense was hard to come by for Queens, who were unable to score until the eighth inning when it was too little too late.

The lone run for the Knights came on an Jorsixt Jimenez RBI single in the eighth inning. Caleb Cassie started the game for the Knights, tossing six innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits with nine strikeouts. Cassie was the losing pitcher in the game.

The Knights end their season with a 30-19 record.

St Joseph’s LI vs Farmingdale St:

The Farmingdale St Rams pulled off 6-1 victory in the Skyline Conference tournament against their cross Long Island rivals St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles. With the win, the Rams move to 2-0 in the tournament, and move on to a game against USMMA.

For the Rams, Richie Heyder led the way with two RBIs while Tyler DiRocco, Daniel Deustch and Greg Friedman each had one. Roman Dorosh was the winning pitcher and starter for the Rams. In 7.2 innings, Dorosh struck out five and allowed only one run on eight hits.

For the Golden Eagles, the lone RBI was picked up by Anselmo Joya. Peter Manger started and nearly pitched the entire game for the Golden Eagles. In 8.1 innings, Manger struck out four and allied four earned runs on 14 hits.

The Rams move on to play USMMA in the next round while St Joseph’s moves on to take on Manhattanville in a do or die game. Both games will take place Saturday.

USMMA:

The United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners picked up a big win over the Manhattanville Valiants 8-4 in the Skyline Conference Tournament. The Mariners used a pair of three run innings in both the seventh and eighth to take down the Valiants.

Travis Leatherwood, Tyler Reistetter and Ben Bridges each had two RBIs for the Mariners while Charles Calahan had one. Reistetter was also the starting and winning pitcher for the Mariners. In eight innings, Reistetter allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine. USSMA moves on to a game against Farmingdale on Saturday.
