GAME RECAP: Nick Pepitone Fans 10 over 6 Shutout Innings As Connetquot Runs Win Streak to 9

The Connetquot T-Birds may have gotten off to a slow start to the season, but they are firing on all cylinders as the calendar flips to May. They cruised past Lindenhurst, 6-0, to run their win streak to 9 and clinched a playoff berth in the process.

Starting pitcher Nick Pepitone was outstanding, as he had a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He wound up allowing two hits, walking three and striking out 10 in a dominant effort.

“Everything was working for me today,” said the Endicott College-commit. “Mainly my fastball, I felt very good going into the game and my fielders, shout out to them, they made every play they could,” he added.

The T-Birds high-octane offense wasted no tine in this game.

They put up two runs in the first and second innings along with one run in the third inning which opened up a 5-0 lead. With the way, Pepitone was throwing, that was more than enough.

The offense got going right away when Jagger Adamo led off with a single up the middle. After a fly out to right field, Ryan Kiendle singled and he advanced to third. They got on the board on a double steal, and after a walk to DJ Filippone, Michael Empaynado ripped an RBI single to make it 2-0. The inning ended on a strikeout of Dylan Cerone.

After a 1-2-3 second inning by Pepitone, the offense went back to work. A one-out walk was followed by Tony Gagliardo‘s first of three hits on the afternoon. Both of those runs scored on a two-out single by Adamo, who was thrown out attempting to stretch into a double.

Connetquot’s fifth run of the game scored on an RBI single by Santino Capozzola which broke the game open.

Lindenhurst was unable to muster any offense against Pepitone, who was in control all game. They did get two base runners in the sixth inning on a single by Mike DiGiuseppe and walk by Ricky Nunez, but Pepitone struck out the next two batters to end his day strong.

With the victory, Connetquot improves to 10-3 on the season and remains one game behind Sachem North (12-3) and one game ahead of Commack (9-4) in the strongest league in Suffolk.
