Hofstra:
The Hofstra University Pride used a four run fifth inning to take down the North Carolina A&T Aggies at home 5-3 in the series opening matchup between the two teams.
The Pride, who were down 2-1 going into the fifth, used a Santino Rosso three run homer and a Michael Florides RBI single to take down the Aggies. Matt Pelcher brought in the only other run with an RBI groundout in the second inning. Michael O’Hanlon started the game for the Pride, tossing 7.2 innings, striking out seven and allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits. Mike McKenna picked up his sixth save in the victory.
The Pride are 15-27 with a 6-10 league record and will take on the NC A&T Aggies again on Saturday.
Stony Brook:
The Stony Brook Seawolves blew out the Monmouth Hawks 9-1 in the first of a game series on the road. The Seawolves scored all nine of their runs in fifth, seventh and ninth innings en route to a dominant victory.
Evan Fox led the way for the Seawolves with a two run home run. Ryan Micheli, Cam Santerre and Matthew Wright each had two RBI’s as well while Matt Brown-Eiring drove in one. Colin Rhein pitched the majority of the game for the Seawolves, tossing 6.2 innings, striking out five and allowing one run and five hits for his third win of the year.
The Seawolves are 22-17 with a 10-6 CAA record and will take on Monmouth again on Saturday.
Fordham:
The Fordham Rams continued their strong play in A10 competition with a 8-4 road victory over the Rhode Island Rams on Friday. In the battle of the Rams, Fordham reigns in the opening matchup between the two teams.
Daniel Bucciero led the way for Fordham with two RBIs, with one coming on a solo home run. Cian Sahler also had two RBIs in the game while Madden Ocko, Henry Pelinski and Chris Genaro each had one. Declan Levalle started the game for the Rams and picked up his sixth victory of the season. In seven innings, Levalle struck out five and allowed four runs on five hits.
The Rams are 17-23 with an 8-5 record and will take on Rhode Island in the second of a three game set.
LIU:
The Long Island University Sharks used a four run seventh inning to pick up 8-1 home victory over the Delaware State Hornets on Friday. The Sharks used nine hits to score eight runs to take down the Hornets in the opening game of this three game series.
Jake Mastillo opened the scoring for the Sharks with a two run home run in the fourth. Jacob Pipercic picked up three RBIs in the game. Two coming in the sixth and one coming in the eighth, and Carlton Harper drove in a pair with a single in the sixth. Garrett Yawn started the game for LIU, tossing six innings, striking out seven and allowing a run on four hits in what was his third win of the year.
The Sharks are 20-18 with a 13-9 league record, and will take on the Hornets in a rematch on Saturday.
St. John’s:
The St. John’s Red Storm were unable to overcome an early lead on the road as they were defeated by the Xavier Musketeers 4-3 in the opening game of a three game series between the two teams. The Red Storm have now dropped three games in a row.
All three Red Storm runs came on a Ben Beauchamp three run home run in the top of the third inning. Kyle Chase started the game for St. John’s and suffered his second loss of the season. In 4.2 innings, Chase allowed four runs on nine hits.
Three of the Musketeers’ runs came on a three run homer by Luke Hammond. Jonathan Kelly was the winning pitcher for Xavier.
St. John’s is now 25-11 and will take on Xavier once again on Saturday.
Division-II:
Molloy:
The No. 15 Molloy Lions dominated the College of Staten Island 12-3 on Friday. Molloy scored 10 of its runs in the fifth inning en route to a dominant victory, and their 31st on the season.
Joe Burriesci led the way for Molloy with three RBIs. Nicholas Dagnello also contributed with two RBIs while JJ DeVito, Aidan Larkin, Matt Yip, Patrick Sanchez and Chris Giardino each had one. Charlie Cucchiara started the game and tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing only one hit with 11 strikeouts. Cucchiara is now 9-0 on the season.
The Lions are 31-10 with a 13-4 league record and the two teams will play again on Saturday.
Adelphi:
The Adelphi Panthers allowed seven runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 8-5 loss to the University of New Haven Chargers. The Panthers drop their 19th overall game of the season, but still hold an over .500 record with 20 wins to 19 losses.
Anthony Rigogliosi led the way for the Panthers with two RBIs. Joe Pellegrino and Erick Duignan each had one. Carlos Acosta started the game for the Panthers and struggled, only getting through 1.1 innings and allowing five runs on three hits in his second loss of the year.
The Panthers are 20-19 with a 12-10 league record and will take on the Chargers again on Saturday.
Queens:
The Queens College Knights saw their eight game win streak end at the hands of the Bloomsburg Huskies on the road 6-4. Although the Knights took an early 3-0 lead, they were unable to hold off the Huskies, who came back to take down the Knights.
Thomas Napolitano Jr. led the way for Queens offensively with two RBI’s while Francis Segarra and Michael Vilardi each had one. Caleb Cassie started the game, tossing 4.1 innings, striking out six and allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits for his third loss of the year.
The Knights are 25-15 and will hope to get their revenge on Bloomsburg on Saturday.
