Division-I:
Hofstra:
The Hofstra University Pride used a seven run fifth inning to take down the Campbell Fighting Camels 11-7 at home in the first of a three game series between the two teams. The Pride, who were trailing by three entering the fifth, saw their offense explode en route to their fourth conference victory of the season.
The offensive heroes for Hofstra were Steve Harrington, who had three RBIs including a solo home run, and Joseph Mennella who’s two RBIs came on a two run homer. Luke Masiuk also came up big for Hofstra with a pair of RBIs. Michael O’Hanlon recorded his third victory of the season on the mound. In 6.1 innings, O’Hanlon struck out six and allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Mike McKenna recorded his fifth save of the season.
The Pride are 13-12 with a 4-9 conference record and will play the second of their three game series against Campbell on Saturday.
St. John’s:
The St. John’s Red Storm cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Butler Bulldogs at home on Friday. The Red Storm picked up their 24th overall victory and their fifth conference with the victory over the Bulldogs.
The stars for the Red Storm offensively were Blake Mayberry, who had two RBIs in the contest. As well as Jackson Tucker, Ben Beauchamp, Garrett Scavelli and Chad Falcon who each had one. Kyle Chase started the game for the Red Storm. In five shutout innings, Chase allowed four hits and struck out five. Louis Marinaro was the winning pitcher for St. John’s
The Red Storm are 24-8-1 with a 5-2 conference record and will play the second of a three game series against Butler on Saturday.
Fordham:
Despite recording 12 hits, the Fordham Rams were only able to manage one run in a 6-1 loss to the Saint Louis University Billikens. Although the Rams had plenty of opportunities, they were unable to cash in on them. While the Billikens, who had 13 hits of their own, were able to bring six home en route to victory.
The only Fordham run was scored on a Cian Sahler RBI single. Madden Ocko led the Rams with three hits. The starter on the mound for Fordham was Declan Lavelle, who was charged with his fourth loss of the season, allowing six runs on 12 hits in six innings of work.
For the Billikens, Patrick Clohisy came up big offensively with a solo home run. Jackson Holmes was the winning pitcher while Ethan Bell picked up the save.
The Rams drop to 14-22 and will continue their series against Saint Louis tomorrow.
Stony Brook:
The Stony Brook Seawolves recovered from an early 2-0 deficit to come back and take down the Towson Tigers 4-2 in the first game of a three game series between the two teams. After allowing two first inning runs to the Tigers, the Seawolves did not allow another Tiger to come home en route to a 42 victory.
Three Seawolves had RBIs in the game, Evan Fox, Matt Brown-Eiring and Johnny Pilla. Eddie Smnik started the game for the Seawolves and picked up his fifth win of the year. In six innings, Smnik struck out five and allowed two runs on four hits. Erik Paulsen recorded his fifth save of the season
The Seawolves are 18-17 with a 7-6 league record and will resume their series against Towson on Saturday.
LIU
The Long Island University Sharks dominated in the first game of a three game series against the Stonehill Skyhawks 10-1. In the opening game of a three game home series, the Sharks scored in six of their eight innings on offense, while allowing only one run on five hits.
Carlton Harper was the star of the show offensively for the Sharks, collecting three RBIs, including a two run homer in the bottom half of the fifth. JC Navarro, Benjamin Fierenzi and Jake Mastillo each had two RBIs as well. Garrett Yawn started the game and picked up his second victory on the mound this season. In eight innings, Yawn struck out seven and allowed one run on five hits.
The Sharks are 16-17 with a 14-5 league record and will resume their series against the Skyhawks on Saturday
Division-II:
Queens
It took 11 innings, but the Queens College Knights were victorious over the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans 4-3 in extra innings. After tying the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, it took until the 11th for the Knights to finally seal off the victory in walk off fashion.
The walk off hero for Queens was Joey Patane, who’s RBI single in the 11th was the winner for the Knights. Jorsixt Jimenez, Philip Krpata and Michael Vilardi each also had an RBI in the game as well. Caleb Cassie started the game on the mound for Queens, in eight innings, Cassie struck out 10 and allowed three runs on five hits. Nick Kozerski was the winning pitcher.
Queens moves to 21-14 with an 11-6 conference record and will take on the Spartans in a doubleheader on Saturday.
