Division-I:

St. John’s:

The St. John’s Red Storm went on the road and dominated the Villanova Wildcats 13-7 in a Big East matchup. The Red Storm continue their dominant start to the season, as they pick up win number 20 in only their 26th game of the season.

Of the 10 RBIs the Red Storm had, they were evenly divided amongst five players, as Jimmy Keenan, Jackson Tucker, Ben Beauchamp, Aries Samek, and Garrett Scavelli each had two RBIs in the game. Keenan, Samek, and Scavelli each connected on home runs as well. Xavier Kolhosser started the game for the Red Storm and picked up his seventh win of the season. In 5.1 innings, Kolhosser struck out two and allowed five runs on nine hits. Jed Boyle picked up his third save of the season.

The Red Storm are 20-5-1 and 1-0 in Big East play and will resume their series with Villanova on Saturday.

Hofstra:

The Hofstra University Pride lost the opening game of a three-game series at home to the Delaware Blue Hens 8-4. The Pride drops another Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) game to fall to 2-5 in league play.

Up until the eighth inning, there was only one run scored before both teams combined for 11 runs in the final two innings of the game. Alex McCoy was one of the lone bright spots for the Pride offensively, hitting a solo home run in the ninth inning. Will Kennedy also contributed with a two-RBI single. Dylan Palmer also had an RBI single in the second. Michael O’Hanlon started the game, tossing seven innings, striking out 11, and allowing one run on three hits. Mike McKenna was the losing pitcher for the Pride.

Hofstra is 10-18 with a 2-5 CAA record and will continue their series with Delaware on Saturday.

LIU: 

The Long Island University Sharks used a comeback victory to take down the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks 8-5. After trailing 5-3 going into the seventh inning, the Sharks stormed back to take down the Hawks, scoring five unanswered runs en route to a Northeastern Conference victory.

Jack Power led the charge offensively for the Sharks, driving in three runs in the contest. Benjamin Fierenzi drove in two while Seth Surrett and Noah Sorensen each had one.  Garrett Yawn started the game for the Sharks, tossing five innings, striking out nine, and allowing five runs on eight hits. PJ Moritz was the winning pitcher and Jack VanDoran got the save. 

The Sharks are 9-16 with an 8-5 conference record and will continue their series against the Hawks on Saturday.

Fordham:

The Fordham Rams brought their league record back to .500 with a 5-2 victory over the Richmond Spiders. The Rams used a three-run sixth inning to propel them to a win in the opening game of a three-game series.

Tommy McAndrews led the Rams in RBIs with two. While Andrew Kanellis, Cian Sahler, and Chris Pelinski each had one. Declan Levalle started the game for the Rams, tossing 7.2 innings, striking out 10, and allowing two runs on seven hits. Levalle also picked up his fourth win of the season. Aric Berg got the save in the game.

The Rams are 10-18 overall and 2-2 in league play and will resume their series against Richmond on Saturday,

Stony Brook: 

The Stony Brook Seawolves steamrolled the Elon University Phoenix 18-2 at home in a CAA matchup. The Seawolves used a six-run fifth inning and a 10-run eighth inning to take down the Phoenix in dominating fashion.

Joseph Delzano and Chris Carson led the way for the Seawolves with four each. Both also connected on home runs, with Delzano’s homer being a grand slam. Matt Miceli had three RBIs while Brett Paulsen had two, and four other Seawolves had one. Eddie Smnik picked up his third victory of the season, tossing six innings of shutout and one run all with three strikeouts. Colin Rhein picked up the save, his first of 2024.

The Seawolves are 13-15 with a 2-5 CAA record and will continue their series against Elon on Saturday.

Queens:

The Queens College Knights were soundly defeated 7-0 by the D’Youville Saints. The Knights were only able to manage five hits in the contest as Chris Aculair and Samuel Worthen combined for the shutout for the Saints.

On offense, it was a lackluster showing for the Knights, as only Joey Patane had multiple hits in the contest. Robert Jacobsen, Jorsixt Jimenez, and Frank Romano each had one hit of their own. Jordan Sanabria started the game for the Knights and lost his fourth game of the season. Sanabria tossed 5.2 innings, struck out one, and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits.

The Knights are 15-11 with a 6-3 ECC play and will take on the Saints in a doubleheader on Saturday. 

USMMA:

The United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners defeated the Yeshiva Maccabees in both games of a doubleheader. In the first game, the Mariners offense exploded for 29 runs in a 29-1 victory. In the second game, the Mariners put up an additional 13 runs for a 13-3 victory. In the two games, the Mariners scored a combined 42 runs.

In the first game, the star offensively for the Mariners was Travis Leatherwood. Leatherwood hit a home run, two triples, and a double and recorded six RBIs in the contest. Thomas Chiappetti also hit a home run for the Mariners. Jack Millen and Garrett Clapsaddle each had three RBIs in the contest while Tyler Reisetter, Brice Garner, and Charles Cahalan had two apiece. David Cherwonuk started the first game for USMMA and picked up the win. Cherwonuk tossed four innings, struck out eight allowed one run on one hit, and picked up his second victory of the season.

The second game was only a seven-inning game, but that didn’t hinder the offense for the Mariners, who scored 13 runs in the game. Millen, Chiappetti, and Landon Troutt each had two RBIs in the contest. Michael Monkevich started the game for USMMA and picked up his second victory of the season. Monkevich tossed four innings, struck out three, and allowed two runs on four hits.

The Mariners are 10-8 and will play Farmingdale St in a doubleheader on Sunday. 

Farmingdale St:

The Farmingdale State Rams split a doubleheader on Friday against the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins. The Rams were victorious in the first game 7-1 before dropping the second game 8-7. 

In the first game, Richie Heyder led the way with seven RBI while Ryan Wasserman, Chris McGuggart, Jordan Lambert, Daniel Deutsch, and Sean Maldanado each had one. Johnny Dougherty threw a complete game in the first game. Through seven innings, Dougherty struck out six and allowed one unearned run on four hits. 

In the second game, Bobby Pollock led the way with four RBI while Heyder, McGuggart, and Jordan Lambert each had one. Christian Esperon started the game for the Rams and was the losing pitcher. In two innings, Esperon allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits. 

The Rams are 9-7 and will take on USMMA in a doubleheader on Sunday.
