A rainy Saturday made way for an eventful Sunday in college baseball. A 13-game winning streak was snapped, three doubleheaders took place, and a boatload of scoring in Division II and III was done on Sunday.
Division-I:
Hofstra 5 — Northeastern 13
In a CAA matchup, Northeastern visited Hofstra and won their 16th game of the season, 13-5. The Huskies won the series 2-1.
Northeastern got going quickly as they scored five runs in the first inning. On the mound for the Pride, Henry Cade surrendered the runs to an RBI single, double, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch. After allowing another run in the second off the Huskies stealing home, Cade was pulled finishing the day with six earned runs on four hits allowed and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched.
In the third, Will Kennedy hit a two-run RBI double for Hofstra to cut the deficit to 7-3. However, the Huskies did not take their foot off the pedal. They added five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Luke Masiuk hit a solo homer to add another run for Hofstra but the damage had been done.
The Pride returns to action on Tuesday when Seton Hall comes to Hempstead. The single-game series starts at 3 pm.
Fordham 2 — St. John’s 1
Fordham snapped the St. John’s Red Storm’s 13-game winning streak on Sunday. After losing game one in Queens 9-0, Fordham won game two on their turf in the Bronx, 2-1.
It was a score only a pitcher could love. St. John’s used four different pitchers in the contest. Kyle Chase made his collegiate debut after missing his freshman season due to Tommy John surgery. Chase threw 11 hitless pitches in the first inning including two strikeouts until he was pulled for Evan Chaffee to start the second.
The game was scoreless until the eighth inning. Andrew Kanellis hit an RBI single and Tommy McAndrews hit an RBI double against St. John’s Louis Marinaro. In an attempt to tie the game late in the ninth, Garrett Scavelli hit an RBI double to left center, but the Johnnies ran out of outs to keep their winning streak alive.
Aric Berg received the win for Fordham after striking out five and allowing one run on three hits in four innings pitched.
The series’ final game will be on Monday at Jack Kaiser Stadium at 3 pm. LIU 6 — Norfolk State 3
In an NEC conference battle, LIU defeated Norfolk State on Sunday, 6-3, to sweep the weekend series.
The Sharks brought their big bats on Sunday as LIU secured a 4-0 lead by the third inning. JC Navarro provided an RBI single, Jake Mastillo hit an RBI after grounding into a double play, Bentley Boekhout scored on a wild pitch, and Noah Sorensen hit an RBI single in the third. However, Norfolk State threatened to tie the game.
In the fourth, Justin Journette hit an RBI double to score Norfolk State’s first run. In the sixth, Journette hit a two-run home run to make it 4-3. However, that was all of Norfolk State’s scoring for the day. In the eighth, Seth Surrett supplied an RBI single and Jack Ryan scored on a wild pitch.
LIU’s Jared Hughes secured his first win of the season. He struck out nine batters and allowed three runs on two hits in six innings. Jack VanDoran got his third save of the season after striking out four in the final three innings.
LIU’s next matchup is against Hofstra in Hempstead on Wednesday at 3 pm. Stony Brook 12 — William & Mary 3
After losing the first two games of the series in a doubleheader on Friday, Stony Brook took the final game of the series, 12-3.
The Seawolves only scored one run in each of their losses to William & Mary on Friday. Today, their bats redeemed themselves. Stony Brook scored the game’s first four runs in
the first two innings. Cam Santierre hit a 2 RBI double, Matt Brown-Eiring hit an RBI double, and Brett Paulsen hit an RBI single. William & Mary responded with two runs in the bottom of the second but Stony Brook matched it with two runs in the third.
Matt Miceli laid down a sacrifice bunt and Chris Carson scored on a fielding error. In the fourth, Miceli contributed again but this time with an RBI single to make it 7-2.
Miceli made a major impact from the eighth spot in the batting order. He added a 2 RBI single in the ninth making him 4-5 with 4 RBIs.
JT Raab got his first win of the season after striking out seven and allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings pitched.
Stony Brook will travel back to New York from Virginia to face Iona in a single-game series on Tuesday at 3 pm.

Game 1: Molloy 3 — D’Youville 5

D’Youville opened the scoring in the first after Jeremy Glins hit a solo shot. In the third, Molloy’s Aidan Larkin hit an RBI single to tie it. Patrick Sanchez hit an RBI single in the fourth to make it 2-1 Molloy. D’Youville regained the lead in the fifth thanks to Jake Hollins hitting a two-run double. Thanks to an error by Molloy in the eighth, D’Youville scored two runs. Sanchez knocked an RBI single in the ninth but D’Youville’s Samuel Worth shut the door and secured the save.
Game 2: Molloy 13 — D’Youville 4
In a similar fashion to game one, D’Youville scored first to make it 1-0. The Lions responded with five runs in the bottom of the first.
Gavin McAlonie and Matt Yip hit RBI singles, and Anthony Manisero hit a two-run double and stole home to score a run. The second inning was as damaging as Molloy
scored another five runs. Larkin hit a two-run homer, Manisero supplied an RBI single, Nicholas Dagnello hit a sacrifice fly, and Anthony Marsillo capped it off with an RBI single.
Dagnello wasn’t done as he hit a solo home run in the fourth and an RBI double in the fifth to make it 13-2 Molloy. D’Youville scored two more but Molloy’s arms held off any chance of tying the game.
Matthew Fried won his third game of the season after striking out eight and allowing two runs in five innings. Billy Fitzerald secured the save after pitching the final four innings and allowing two runs while striking out four.
Molloy will start a four-game series against St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday at 3:30 pm.

USMMA vs Lehman (doubleheader)
Game 1: USMMA 18 — Lehman 1 (7 innings)
USMMA hosted a doubleheader against Lehman in the Bronx and they did damage at the plate.
USMMA scored six runs by the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning alone. Key moments came from Landon Troutt’s and Bruce Garner’s two-run doubles, and Charles Cahalan’s RBI double. Game 1’s star of the game was Tyler Reistetter who went 3-5 with a home run, double, triple, and 5 RBIs.

Game 2: USMMA 17 — Lehman 3 (7 innings)
USMMA made a large splash on the score sheet again in game two and defeated Lehman 17-3. Lehman remains winless in 2024 with a 0-8 record.
The beginning of the game was more tame than game one as USMMA did the majority of the scoring towards the end. They had a five-run fifth inning highlighted by Jack
Millen’s two-run double. The doubles kept coming as Millen, Reistetter, and Ernest Darling all hit late-scoring extra-base hits.
Michael Monkevich won his first game of the season. He struck out four and allowed two runs on three hits in five innings.
USMMA will host a single-game series at home against the Coast Guard on Tuesday at 4 pm.

Game 2: SUNY Old Westbury 22 — St. Joseph’s 2 (7 innings)
Game two was much more lopsided than game one. SUNY Old Westbury scored 22 runs to make it a Sunday sweep.

Brian McCloskey hit a two-run homer, Rob Manetta hit an RBI single, Sill had a three-run double, and Dominic Felicitti drove in a run on a single.
The fifth and sixth innings weren’t any prettier for St. Joseph’s. SUNY Old Westbury scored 12 runs in the two innings. Major impacts were made by Petrucelly’s two-run homer, Sill’s three-run shot, and many run-driven singles and bloopers.
Frank Whitenack improves to 3-0 on the season after striking out five, walking seven, and allowing two runs on three hits in three innings pitched.
SUNY Old Westbury is back in action at home versus New Jersey City University on Tuesday at 4 pm.
