Division-I:
Stony Brook: VT 6 – Stony Brook 3
The Stony Brook Seawolves opened their three game series on the road against the Virginia Tech Hokies with a 6-3 loss on Friday. Despite collecting nine hits to the Hokies eight, runners left on base killed the Seawolves, who left 11 runners on base during the game.
Only one Seawolf collected an RBI in the game. Brett Paulsen scored Cam Santerre on a walk. The other two Seawolves runs were scored by Evan Fox and Ryan Micheli on an error. All three Seawolves runs came in the seventh inning. Fox led the team in hits with three. Matt Brown-Eiring was right behind him with two of his own, including the teams only extra base hit.
Eddie Smink started the game for the Seawolves and was the losing pitcher. Smnik tossed six innings, struck out two, walked two and allowed four runs on six hits. JT Rabb relieved Smnik to start the seventh and threw the final two innings of the game, allowing two runs on two hits.
For the Hokies, the offense was led by Ben Watson, who went one for three with a double and two RBI’s. Chris Cannizzaro led the Hokies in hits, going three for four with a double and RBI. Brett Renfrow started the game for Virginia Tech, tossing six innings of shutout ball. Renfrow allowed six hits and struck out seven and was the winning pitcher. Jacob Stretch picked up the save for the Hokies.
The Seawolves are 3-6 and will continue their series vs. Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Hofstra 10 – New Mexico 9
An eighth inning explosion fueled the Hofstra University Pride past the University of New Mexico Lobos 10-9 on the road. Trailing 6-3 entering the eighth, the Pride offense erupted for seven runs to take a 10-7 lead. And despite a last ditch comeback effort by the Lobos, the Pride were able to hang on for the upset victory on the road.
Three Pride players drove in multiple runs. Alex McCoy, Will Kennedy and Sean Lane each had two RBI’s in the game. While Santino Rosso, Luke Masiuk and Michael Florides each drove in one. Matt Pelcher also contributed offensively for the Pride, going two for four and scoring a pair of Hofstra runs.
Michael O’Hanlon was the Pride starter, he tossed 5.2 innings, struck out five, walked two and allowed four runs on five hits. Mike McKenna was the winning pitcher for Hofstra, as he pitched the final two innings.
For the Lobos, the offense was led by Will Asby, who hit a homer to go along with two RBI’s. Khalil Walker and Sean Stephens each had two RBI’s of their own as well. David Lopez started for New Mexico, tossing five innings, striking out five and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits. Wyatt Hardy was the losing pitcher.
The Pride are 4-5 and will continue their series with the Lobos with a doubleheader on Saturday.
St Johns 4 – Sam Houston 0
The St. John’s Red Storm went on the road and opened their series against the Sam Houston Bearkats 4-0. The Red Storm, despite giving up seven hits in the contest, hold the Bearkats off the scoreboard, en route to their third win on the season to bring their record back to .500.
Jimmy Keenan led the Johnnies with two RBI’s, while Jackson Tucker brought in the only other run. Anthony Brienza led the Red Storm in hits with two. Xavier Kolhasser started the game and was fantastic. Kolhasser tossed six scoreless innings with five strikeouts and six hits. Kolhasser also didn’t walk a single batter in a winning performance. Relievers Ben Adams, Tim Cunningham and Sam Mettert combined for only one hit allowed in three innings.
For the Bearkats, Walker Janek and Lane Brewster combined for five of Sam Houston’s seven hits. With Janek picking up three and Brewster two. Coltin Atkinson started the game for Sam Houston, Atkinson was the losing pitcher, as in six innings, he allowed three runs on seven hits.
St. John’s is 3-3 and will continue their series against Sam Houston on Saturday.
Division-II:
Adelphi 8 – Molloy 7

In a thrilling showdown between two Long Island rivals, the Adelphi Panthers took down the Molloy Lions 8-7. Trailing by three entering the bottom of the ninth, the Panthers mounted a comeback that was capped off by a sacrifice fly that scored both the tying and winning runs, giving Adelphi the win.
Catcher Jose Matos was the hero for the Panthers, sending a rare two-run sacrifice fly into center field. Molloy center fielder Joe Burriesci made a diving catch on the play, but was unable to get the ball back into the infield in time, allowing both Albert Ramos and Alec Maag to score. Three of the eight Adelphi runs were driven in by Jack Wishner, who went two for five with a double, including a crucial single in the ninth. Maag had the only other Panthers RBI.
John Carver started the game for the Panthers, but only pitched 0.2 innings. Carver walked five and allowed two runs. He was relieved by Steven Proko, who pitched the bulk of the game. Proko tossed 6.1 innings, struck out seven, walked three, and allowed three runs on three hits. Gavin Graff was the winning pitcher for the Panthers.
For the Lions, it was a balanced offensive attack, as no Molloy batter had more than one hit, and every run was drove in by a different player. JJ DeVito, Aidan Larkin, Sean Serrano, Charlie Imhof, Nicholas Dagnello, Matt Yip and Burriesci each had an RBI in the contest.
Charlie Cucchiara was the starter for Molloy. He tossed six innings, struck out five, walked three, and allowed three runs on six hits. Sean Welsh was the losing pitcher.
Adelphi moves to 4-2 on the season while Molloy drops to 6-2. The two teams will do battle again in a doubleheader on Sunday.
