Recap of Blue Chip Prospect’s Pitcher & Catcher Showcase

This past Sunday was the annual Pitcher & Catcher Showcase at Prospect Sports in Farmingdale. There was over 10 colleges in attendance to watch some of the top uncommitted pitchers on Long Island.

Here’s a few that caught my eye:

Nolan Comerford (Bellport 2025)

In my opinion, he had the best arm in attendance. His FB sat in the low 80s and topped at 84. Additionally, he has already proven himself to be a successful pitcher at the varsity level and still has two more seasons to go. He has a really clean delivery and had the best command of any pitcher as well. The arm slot is tough on right-handed hitters. He throws a split-change up which is a unique pitch for a high schooler to get a feel for. Overall, I came away very impressed and I have a Division-II starting pitcher grade on him.

Jesse Kostulias (Mineola 2025)

There was a lot to like with Kostulias. Clearly has a very good feel of pitching with clean mechanics. He topped at 81, but had topped at 84 at PBR’s event in October. The change up could be a weapon – had arm side fade and threw it with the exact same arm speed and arm slot. He should be in store for a big high school season. I think he can be a Division-II starting pitcher especially as he puts on more weight on his thin frame. 87-88 MPH should not be out of the question in another year.

Nolan Lally (Floral Park 2024)

I was not familiar with Lally before the event, but that’s exactly why you have a showcase for players like that in their senior season. He is the perfect type of player to benefit from this type of showcase, as any Division-III team should be interested in pitchers that can throw strikes, repeat their delivery with an average to slightly above average velocity. He was 78-80 but pounded the zone and he had command of his off speed pitches. I could see him being a Division-III reliever as a freshman with the upside of moving to the rotation down the road.

Joseph Rondinella (Sachem East 2025)

Rondinella fits the prototypical crafty lefty billing. Listed at 5’8 137 lbs, he is not going to rely on overpowering the opposing lineup. But he worked all quadrants of the zone and throw his curveball and change up for strikes. Sachem East has had plenty of successful southpaws over the years and he will look to be the next. Most likely a Division-III pitcher due to the velocity, but there is no shame in that if you can win games. Should see plenty of innings for the Arrows the next two years.
