GAME RECAP: NY Longhorns Tassielli Finish Off Perfect Fall Season, Capture 13u American Championship

Well, you can’t do any better than that.

The New York Longhorns Tassielli, in their first season together, went 21-0, and put the exclamation point on their undefeated fall with a run-rule victory in the LI Boys of Summer 13u American Championship over LI Storm.

They didn’t waste any time, either. They scored 8 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The tone was set by James Steck who hit a routine grounder to short, but hustled out of the box and beat the throw. RBI hits by Jake Spina and a two-run single by Patrick Dolan followed and made it 3-0. Andrew Kil and Thomas Terravecchia followed with two-run hits of their own to break the game open.

With the way Joey Moy was pitching for the Longhorns, it was pretty evident that the lead would not be in jeopardy.

The first base runner that Moy allowed was a walk, and he was promptly erased when he tried to advance on an errant pick off throw by Moy but the right fielder threw him out at second. The next batter grounded out and that ended the inning.

The Longhorns actually went scoreless in the second inning, but they added on runs in the third inning with a four-spot. Christian Gonzalez hit an RBI single to score Terravecchia, and Moy hit a two-run single that scored him and Cole Ferraiolo. Jake Spina added another RBI hit to make it 12-0.

Regardless of the age, 21-0 is quite an accomplishment. They did so in dominant fashion, routinely putting up double-digit runs. Congratulations to the NY Longhorns on a terrific season.
