GAME RECAP: Top Tier Aviators Late Rally Seals the Win Over Yeti Baseball

by Chris Donnelly

In a 15u Boys of Summer American division matchup between Top Tier Aviators Imbriani and Yeti Baseball it was a pitchers’ duel as the Aviators would go on to win in a low-scoring affair by a score of 3-1.

CJ Burkhardt took the mound for the Aviators and looked great going 5 innings, striking out 9, and only surrendering 1 run on 2 hits. Burkhardt started off strong striking out 2 in the first and setting down Yeti in order.

Michael Kordecki took the ball for Yeti Baseball, and he did well as he threw 5 innings, striking out 7, while surrendering 3 runs on 4 hits.  Kordecki got it started in the 1st putting up a 0 and keeping the Aviators off the board.

Burkhardt continued to show out striking out another 2 while setting down Yeti Baseball in order again. Kordecki returned the favor putting the Aviators down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 2nd. Yeti Baseball got their first baserunner of the game on a hit by pitch, but Burkhardt kept the runner from crossing getting a flyout and 2 strikeouts. The Aviators got the 1st hit of the game, yet Kordecki was able to dig deep and get out of the inning keeping the score tied 0-0 after 3 innings.

Yeti Baseball started to get something going in the 4th after a leadoff hit by pitch and a walk to set up runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs. A sacrifice bunt from Sean Masterson set up Joe Mennella with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Mennella would come through with an RBI single to score the 1st run of the game and give Yeti Baseball a 1-0 lead. Burkhardt was able to limit the damage by picking off Mennella and getting a strikeout to keep the score 1-0.

Yeti Baseball and Kordecki rode the momentum and sent down the Aviators down in order. Yeti Baseball was in full control after 4 innings.

The bottom of the 5th held the most action in the game as the Aviators were able to start a 2 out rally getting runners on 1st and 2nd for Ben Magee and he would come through with an RBI single tying the game at 1-1, but it was Matt Pasfield who did the most damage bringing in 2 runs on a line drive double down the left field line to give the Aviators a 3-1 lead after 5 innings.

That was all the Aviators needed as they would go on to win the game 3-1 after some timely hitting and great pitching.
