GAME RECAP: Tigers Bats Explode in Run-Rule Win

by Chris Donnelly

In an 8u Matchup between the RVC Tigers and East Meadow Mustangs in an East Coast League game the Tigers came out swinging and never stopped in route to their 14-2 victory over the Mustangs. The Mustangs would send Renzo Ioannou out to the mound to get the game started.

It started early for the Tigers after back-to-back singles led to a 1-0 lead for the Tigers. Lucas Quiroz added another RBI with a ground out to the first basemen. The Tigers would go on to add 3 more off the bats of Declan Cowan and Owen Altschuler making it 5-0 after the top of the first and heading into the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers sent Sebastian Llaguno to the hill to try keep the Mustangs off the board. The bottom half allowed the Mustangs to get some of their own runs on the board.  After a leadoff walk Renzo Ioannou would bring in 1 on a single to the second basemen, making the score 5-1. Following the RBI single Brady Merkle would smoke a double to the left-center gap bringing in Ioannou and cutting the deficit to 3. Llaguno would dig deep and get out of the inning only surrendering the 2 keeping the score 5-2 after 1 inning.

The 2nd inning the Tigers did not show any signs of slowing down after getting the first 2 batters on with no one out. After a fielder’s choice kept the runners at first and second up came Llaguno trying to help himself out. He did just that as he doubled over the center fielder’s head bringing in bother runners and extending the Tigers lead to 7-2. That wasn’t all as Cowan came up again and did some more damage. He brought in Llaguno with a single to right field making the score 8-2.

The Mustangs would threaten in the bottom of the 2nd loading the bases with 2 outs. Yet, they failed to bring any runs across as Llaguno got a ground ball to shortstop Phoenix Santoro who made a nice back handed play in the 6-5 hole who kept his momentum and threw out the runner on is way to third to end the inning.

The Tigers continued to keep scoring. 3 in the 3rd after a single and 2 walks loaded the bases with 1 out. A fielder’s choice from Quiroz scored 1, a double from Llaguno bringing in 1, and a single from Santoro scoring 1 making the score 11-2. The Mustangs again loaded the bases but couldn’t bring in any runs leaving the bases loaded stranded 2 innings in a row.

The Tigers continued their trend of scoring runs putting up another 3 forcing the Mustangs hand to score or the game would end. Just like that the Tigers would end up striking out the side to end the game in a 14-2 run rule victory.
