GAME RECAP: Greendogs Hit Their Way to Victory in Stars & Stripes Tournament

by Chris Donnelly

In a 12u matchup between the Farmingdale Greendogs and LI Titans in a playoff game for the Stars & Stripes East Coast Tournament the Greendogs were relentless with the bats all the way to the end.

In the top of 1st, the Greendogs sent Braden Cloghessy to the mound to advance them in the tournament. Cloghessy would sit down the Titans in order to give the Greendogs an opportunity in the bottom half of the inning. Cloghessy led off the bottom half with a single setting the table for the Greendogs. Cloghessy proceeded to steal 2nd and 3rd giving the Greendogs an RBI chance early. With Logan Tyler stepping up to the plate he brought in Cloghessy on a groundball giving the Greendogs a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning.

The 2nd inning was similar to the 3rd inning as Cloghessy shut down the Titans giving the Greendogs a chance to extend their lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. They did exactly that after a leadoff single and a stolen base brought up Matt Folger. Folger drove in 1 with an RBI single making it 2-0 after 2 innings.

The 3rd inning allowed the Titans to gain some momentum after a reach on error and a walk. After a sacrifice bunt from Anthony Adragna set up an RBI single getting the Titans on the board making it 2-1 Greendogs. The bottom of the 3rd continued the Titans momentum as they kept the Greendogs of the board keeping the score 2-1 after 3 innings.

The 4th inning started off as the Titans went down threatening to get 2 runners on base but failing to push any across the plate. This proved to be the difference as the Greendogs would go on to score 3 in the bottom of the 4th after back-to-back walks, a couple of errors, and another RBI single from Matt Folger making the score 5-1 after 4 innings.

In the 5th inning, again the Titans got runners on but failed to bring them home leaving them stranded keeping the score 5-1 after the top of the 5th. The Greendogs continued to pile on more runs ending the game in a 5 inning mercy rule after a leadoff double set up the Greendogs to pour on more a sac fly, single, walk, and a walk off passed ball to give the Greendogs the 9-1 victory in 5 innings and advance them in the tournament to the next round.
