GAME RECAP: LSW Astros Outslug B1000 Seminoles in a Close One

by Chris Donnelly

In a 12u East Coast Youth Baseball summer matchup between LSW Astros and B1000 Seminoles it could not have been more entertaining. It started in the top of the first when the Astros led off the game with 4 straight singles. Sean Morrissey brought in 2, Liam Byrne brought in 1, and Ryan Matson brought in 1 making it 4-0. The Seminoles opted for a pitching change before they got an out. The Seminoles eventually induced a groundout and strikeout to give themselves a chance to swing and put up runs.

The Seminoles did exactly that putting up 4 of their own tying the game. After a leadoff walk, Samuel Castillo was able to drive him in with an RBI single for the first run. Then it was followed by 2 more singles and a hit by pitch to tie the game 4-4 going to the 2nd inning. The 2nd inning was the quickest as both teams went down in order to keep the game tied 4-4 heading to the 3rd inning.

The 3rd had much more action as the Astros came out swinging putting up 5 more runs making it 9-4 Astros. After a leadoff walk, Brian Kalinowski hit an RBI double making it 5-4. Next it was Morrissey’s turn again as he knocked in another one for his 3rd RBI of the day making it 6-4. Byrne made it 8-4 on a groundout after the 7th run scored on a wild pitch. Then Eddie Schiff hit an RBI single making it 9-4. Onto the bottom of the 3rd, Sean Morrissey was rolling in his second inning on the mound stranding a leadoff double and working around a 2 out walk to keep the momentum in favor of the Astros.

Looking to pile on more in the 4th, the Astros would be left empty handed going down in order to send the game to the bottom of the 4th. The Seminoles sparked a 1 out rally after loading the bases. The Seminoles brought in 2 on a double but that wasn’t it as Nico Pasquacello brought in 2 more on a 2 RBI triple making it 9-8 Astros heading to the 5th inning.

The Astros added some insurance runs once again off the bats of Sean Morrissey and Liam Byrne. Morrissey brought in 1 on a triple giving him 4 RBIs on the day and Byrne brought in 1 on a single giving him 3 RBIs on the day. The Astros put up 2 more making it 12-8. In the bottom of the 5th, the Seminoles couldn’t make anything happen sending the game to the final inning.

In the 6th the Astros would go down 1-2-3 but would go to the bottom of the 6th looking to close it out. After a quick out, the Seminoles came back to life with 3 singles in a row making the score 12-9. After an RBI groundout, it was now 12-10 and the Seminoles were threatening to tie or win the game. Yet, the Astros dug deep and got a groundout back to the pitcher to end the game with a final score of 12-10 Astros over the Seminoles.
