In a 16u National Boys of Summer match up between Yeti Select and Long Island Crew, Yeti Select came away with the 4-0 shutout win. It all started in the top of the 1st when LI Crew got 2 men on from singles. The starting pitcher for Yeti Select, Dylan Broschart, worked through it inducing a groundball to himself to get out of the inning.
Liam Murphy got the start for LI Crew and he got into some trouble early. Heading to the bottom of the 1st, Yeti Select came out swinging after back-to-back singles from Jake Romeo and Nick Friscia to take a 1-0 lead. It didn’t stop there, because Dylan Ruland came up and knocked in Friscia on an RBI double down the right field line to make the score 2-0 Yeti Select.
Going into the 2nd, Broschart was looking to keep the lead and he did exactly that striking out the side. Both Broschart and Murphy had started to settle down keeping their teams in the game and the opposing offences at a standstill. Including another inning of Broschart striking out the side.
In the top of the 4th the LI Crew started to get something going after a single and reached on error. Still, Yeti Select dug deep and Broschart got another ground ball, this time to Camden Wallace allowing him to turn the double play tagging the runner on his way to second and turning and throwing out the runner at first.
Murphy ended up coming out after 4 innings and handed the game over to Jameson Riegel. He worked a 1-2-3 inning to keep the score 2-0 to send it to the bottom of the 5th. The LI Crew came up threatening after back-to-back walks to lead off the inning to make it 1st and 2nd with no one out. A bunt back to the pitcher where he turned and threw to 3rd to make it 1st and 2nd, 1 out LI Crew still threatening. Not for long as the catcher for Yeti Select Nick Fiorentino came up huge and back picked the runner on first base making it runner on 2nd two outs. That was all Broschart needed getting one more ground ball finishing his day and the top of the 6th still 2-0 Yeti Select.
