GAME RECAP: Plainview JFK Scores 11 Unanswered Runs, Defeats Port Washington 11-3

by Eddie Lennon

In Game 2 of their series, Plainview JFK was overpowering once again. After a double-digit shutout victory on Monday, they defeated Port Washington once again, 11-3.

After failing to score yesterday, Port Washington was the first to get on the scoreboard on Tuesday. In the first, Gawley hit an RBI double to left to drive in Milgrim to score the first run. Jack Robinson would hit double down the 3rd base line to make it 2-0. Koki Maezawa drove in the third run by grounding out to the pitcher. Just like that they were up 3-0 before their starter, Jake Scharlat, took the mound.

The whole game changed in the bottom of the second. Plainview JFK’s bats began to get hot and they started to get runners on in important situations. Philip Pirozzi drove in Nate Sica to get Plainview JFK on the board. After a strikeout, throwout double play to get the runner at third, Andrew Lenski tied the game up with a two-run single.

After getting an out in the third, Port Washington replaced Scharlat with lefty Jeff Radinksy. Plainview JFK’s starter, Matthew Hernandez, tossed three innings, not allowing another run after the first inning. In the third, Plainview JFK put Anthony Powers on the bump and he took over. Powers would hold Port Washington scoreless through 4 innings of relief. Powers would take the lead for Plainview JFK in the bottom of the third with a two-run double.

Plainview JFK would explode for six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Georgia Tech-commit Sebastian Lippman drove in a run and then went on to steal home. To put the cherry on top, Peter Bounougious would blast a two-run home run to right field, making the lead 11-3.

Powers earned the win and Bounougious was the Axcess Baseball Player of the Game Powered by GameChanger. Plainview JFK looks to keep their offense explosive as they continue their hunt for the postseason.
