Division-I:
Stony Brook 5, William and Mary 7 (10 innings)
Catcher Nate Goranson got the Tribe on the board in the opening frame with an RBI knock. Stony Brook evened the score in the third via a sacrifice bunt from backstop Ryan Micheli. The Tribe got back on top in the following inning with a two-run double courtesy of third baseman Ryan Bhojwani and then tacked on an additional run in the fifth with an RBI single by Goranson. The Sea Wolves tied the game up once again in the sixth, reaching on a fielding error and following that with a two-run single by right fielder Jason Campo. Stony Brook then grabbed their first lead of the day in the following inning thanks to left fielder Matt Brown-Eiring who hit a sacrifice fly. Left fielder Lucas Carmichael lined an RBI single in the eighth to tie the game at five a piece. In the tenth, center fielder Joe Delossantos hit a two-run RBI double that brought in the eventual winning run. Stony Brook looks to avoid a series sweep on Sunday at 12:00 PM EST.
St. John’s
Game 1: St. John’s 3, UConn 8
Game 2: St. John’s 9, UConn 7
The Huskies jumped out to a two run lead after three innings with an RBI groundout in the second and a sacrifice fly in the third. The Red Storm tied the game in the fourth via a two-run shot by backstop Austin Machado. UConn got back on top in the following inning with a solo blast by center fielder Korey Morton. St. John’s continued to fight back and tied the game up once again in the sixth with an RBI single by first baseman Aaron Mann. UConn would score the game winning run in the eighth off an RBI double from right fielder Jake Studley. The Huskies then tacked on four more in the final frame which was kickstarted by Studley who lined an RBI single.
In the second game, Studley once again got on the scoresheet. He knocked an RBI double in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the third to give the Huskies a two-run lead. The Red Storm took the lead in the bottom half of the third with an RBI double by left fielder David Glancy and a two-run single by Machado. Right fielder Luke Orbon brought in another run for the Red Storm in the fourth. Studley continued to serve as the backbone of the UConn offense, launching a two-run blast in the fifth to tie the game. St. John’s responded in the second half of that inning with a two-run single, courtesy of second baseman Anthony Brienza to claim the lead back. This game continued to go back-and-forth and the Huskies tied it up in sixth and then proceeded to take the lead with a two-run homerun, by third baseman Dominic Freeberger and a solo home run by first baseman Ben Huber. Orbon then lined another RBI knock in the second half of the frame to tie the game at seven in the sixth inning. Third baseman Marty Higgins hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to put the Red Storm on top. Aaron Mann then ripped an RBI double in the eighth. Nick Cirelli was tasked to close out the game and did so earning a two-inning save. St. John’s takes a trip to Hofstra to face the Pride in a local showdown on Tuesday at 3:00 PM EST.
Fordham
Fordham 1, Rhode Island 0
The only run came in heroic fashion as the Rams walked it off. Left fielder Cian Sahler lined an RBI single to center field which brought home first baseman Will Findlay. Both starters were dominant. Braden Perry for Rhode Island threw seven shutout innings with five punchouts and Austin Sacher threw six and two-thirds with ten strikeouts. Aric Berg was the winning pitcher and threw two and one-third innings of relief while surrendering one hit and recording three punchouts. The Rams continue the homestand Wednesday as they welcome Columbia at 3:30 PM EST.
LIU 17, Norfolk State 7
The Sharks jumped out to a six run lead after just three innings of play. This stretch was highlighted by two RBI knocks, one each by first baseman JC Navarro and backstop Connor Price. The Spartans rattled off seven consecutive runs across the next three innings to grab the lead. Right fielder Justin Journette, catcher Dominic Joseph, and center fielder Dionte Brown all hit at least one RBI single (Brown hit 2) during this stretch. The bats went quiet for a few frames, until the ninth when the Sharks tallied eleven runs to overpower the Spartans. Navarro began the run by lining an RBI double. Price knocked a two-run double and another RBI single as well. Shane Tucker was the winning pitcher in this one and threw two and one-third shutout innings of relief with three punchouts. LIU will take on Manhattan on Wednesday at 3:00 PM EST.
Division-II:
Queens/Molloy
Game 1: Queens 10, Molloy 16
Game 2: Queens 5, Molloy 7
Molloy got on the board first thanks to an RBI double by first baseman Jake McCarthy in the second inning. Then in the fifth, both offenses exploded. Molloy tallied eight runs while Queens responded with six. Center fielder Garret Scavelli opened the scoring for the Lions with an RBI single and left fielder JJ DeVito capped off the run with a two-run knock. Queens’ run was highlighted by the three-run shot courtesy of first baseman Anthony Fontana. Molloy got hot once again in the seventh and put up another seven runs. A solo blast by designated hitter Chris Peralta woke the bats up. Then DeVito, McAloinie and McCarthy all hit RBI singles. Queens put up three runs themselves in the second half of the frame thanks to a three-run single by shortstop Andrew Ramirez but could not complete the rally.
In the second game, the Lions scored twice in the opening frame, once off an RBI groundout and a single by right fielder Anthony Manisero. The Knights got one run back off an RBI double by Fontana. In the following inning, Scavelli launched a two-run homerun to extend the Molloy lead. Fontana responded in the third with a two-run shot of his own. Then, in the fourth, Queens overtook the lead with another two-run blast, this time by center fielder Jayson Rodopoulos. Molloy tied and reclaimed the lead in the fifth by scoring on two errors. Then Chris Peralta hit a sacrifice fly to increase the Molloy lead to two in the seventh. Richard Gennaro earned his second win of the season by throwing three shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts.
Adelphi
Game 1: Adelphi 3, Pace 9
Game 2: Adelphi 4, Pace 15
Pace got out to a three-run lead in the opening frame off three RBI singles, one each by right fielder Luke Jacobi, left fielder Matthew Rinaldi, and shortstop Matthew Baronian. Jacobi then lined a two-run RBI double in the second inning. Shortstop Jack Wishner got the Panthers on the board in the fourth with an RBI knock. Pace tallied two more runs in the fifth off two sacrifice flies. Second baseman Anthony Cipri responded in the bottom half of the fifth with an RBI single and first baseman Michael Draskin hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh but the Panthers could not complete the comeback.
In the second game, the Panthers put up two in the first inning off an RBI single from left fielder Kyle Olson and a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Joe Pellegrino. Pace got one run back in the second by way of an RBI single by first baseman Nate Carminucci and eventually tied the game in the third with an RBI groundout. Adelphi also scored in the third, this time with an RBI double from backstop Alec Maag. Pace tallied five runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run RBI double by Jacobi. Adelphi scored their fourth run in their half of the inning via a sacrifice fly by third baseman/shortstop Albert Ramos. The Setters then tallied three runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh which sealed their victory. Carminucci brought in two more runs during this stretch, one via a base on balls, and another with a single. Center fielder Josh Miller also ripped an RBI double which scored two. The Panthers head to Pennsylvania on Wednesday to take on West Chester University of Pensylvannia at 3:00 PM EST.
St. Joseph’s
Game 1: St. Joseph’s 7, Manhattanville 6
Game 2: St. Joseph’s 8. Manhattanville 4
The Golden Eagles got on the board early with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Manhattanville responded with a sacrifice fly of their own in the third to even the score. The Golden Eagles put up four runs in the fourth inning which began with an RBI single by first baseman Nick Vicino. Catcher Mike Badala hit an RBI single and right fielder Phil Krpata lined a two-run knock to cap off the inning. Manhattanville had a four-run inning of their own in the sixth to tie the game up once again. This was highlighted with a two-run double by pinch hitter Marco Clara. In the eighth, the Golden Eagles got back on top with some alert baserunning by Vicino who scored on a wild pitch. Manhattanville continued to fight back and tied the game in the ninth frame off a fielder’s choice. St. Joseph’s scored the eventual game winning run in the tenth inning thanks to an RBI single by center fielder Paul Gugliuzzo. Dante Morabito shut the door to tally his second save of the season.
In the nightcap, the scoring opened in the second inning with both teams scoring one run apiece. Then in the fourth, left fielder Jake Giannico ripped an RBI triple to give the Golden Eagles the lead. St. Joseph’s tacked on three more in the fifth, capped off by an RBI knock by Vicino. Manhattanville got within two runs of the Golden Eagles with a two-run RBI double by catcher Michael Matica and an RBI groundout. St. Joseph’s increased their lead in the seventh by tacking on two more runs. This started with another RBI single by Vicino, who was all over the scoresheet in both games. St. Joseph’s will host New Jersey City on Tuesday at 6:00 PM EST.
Maritime/Old Wesbury
Game 1: Maritime 7, Old Westbury 6
Game 2: Maritime 5, Old Westbury 12
Maritime got on the board first in the third inning off an RBI knock by right fielder Anthony Madigan. The Panthers then claimed the lead in the fifth inning by tallying six runs. This stretch was capped off with a grand slam by first baseman Oscar Fajardo. The Privateers continued to claw back into the game and did so putting up two runs in the sixth with an RBI fielder’s choice and an RBI single by center fielder Matt Milone. Then in the seventh, second baseman Nick Pinggera knocked an RBI double and first baseman Rob Copozzi crushed a three-run shot to give Maritime the lead. Matthew Demme tallied his first save of the season by retiring three consecutive batters.
In the second game, the Privateers once again scored first, this time in the second inning off an RBI double by designated hitter Vasilios Vafakos and a sacrifice fly. The Panthers then tallied ten consecutive runs across the next four innings. Left fielder Jacob Taormina launched a solo shot in the third and then lined a two-run single in the fourth. Catcher Charlie Eisele capped off the stretch with a two-run RBI double to center field. Third baseman Freddy Forgione got the Privateers back on the scoresheet in the seventh with a three-run homerun. Then in the eighth, Westbury tacked on two more, featuring a run-scoring double by Taormina who finished the game with a team leading four runs batted in. Maritime will take on Mt. St. Mary for a double header next Saturday beginning at 12:00 PM EST and Old Westbury will take on FDU-Fordham on Tuesday at 3:30 PM EST.
USMMA
Game 1: USMMA 6, DeSales 5
Game 2: USMMA 3, DeSales 10
USMAA opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run by pitcher/designated hitter Tyler Reistetter and an RBI groundout by first baseman Travis Leatherwood. The Bulldogs responded with a solo shot in the second, courtesy of right fielder Joe Grigas. Reistetter then ripped an RBI triple and shortstop Jared Chambers lined an RBI double in the third to increase the Marine lead. DeSales got two runs back in the bottom half of the frame, both via RBI base on balls. Left fielder Joey Zanetti knocked an RBI single in the fourth to add to the lead. DeSales responded once again with a two-run double by center fielder Carson Allison which closed the gap to just one run. Maritime turned to two relievers who shut the door. Both Michael Monkevich and Caden Pierce (who earned the save) threw one shutout inning a piece.
Zanetti opened the scoring for the USMAA in the second game with an RBI single. DeSales responded in the bottom half of the frame with two RBI singles, one each by center fielder JT Anderosky and third baseman Gabe Diaz and an RBI double by left fielder Carson Allison which scored two. Then in the following inning, DeSales tallied three more which was capped off by a run-scoring single by Diaz. Zanetti brought in another two runs in the fifth with a single to get USMAA within four. DeSales pulled away in the following frame with three more runs which was highlighted by an RBI double by Allison, who finished the game with three runs batted in. USMAA will travel to Bard on Wednesday at 4:00 PM EST.
