When you put together a travel team, it typically consists of the top players from a certain region. When you put together a team that is trying to compete in the biggest tournaments nationwide, sometimes that isn’t enough.
LI Field House team is putting together an impressive roster that consists of players from several of the top travel teams in order to compete in the best tournaments PG Tournaments in the country.
Allen Watson, a 9-year MLB veteran that was drafted in the first round out of NYIT in 1991 helped put together the roster which is comprised of players across Suffolk County, Nassau County and Queens.
“I coached a few of them from when they were 8 or 9 years old,” said Watson, who attended Christ the King HS. “We combined with Camelot – a very good team – and they’ve been together for years. I wanted to get them back together to form a team for the top players across LI – Suffolk, Nassau and even Queens. The goal is to play a couple big tournaments per year – not to make money. I’m trying to be old-school with this and just put together the best of the best. That’s what we did back in the day. If you’re going to win these tournaments in Georgia or Diamond Nation, you have to bring the best of the best.”
