Division-I:

St. John’s 15, Quinnipiac 5

First baseman Aaron Mann opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo shot to give the Red Storm the lead.  A sacrifice fly in the third inning by right fielder Luke Orbon doubled the lead for St. John’s.  The Red Storm continued to attack Quinnipiac and launched their second home run of the day, this time a two-run blast in the fourth inning by third baseman Marty Higgins.  The Red Storm then put up three more runs in the sixth inning.  An RBI double by center fielder Jackson Tucker opened the scoring and Luke Orbon singled to cap off the inning with his second RBI of the day.  Quinnipiac got on the board in the bottom half of the sixth with a two-run RBI single by first baseman Sean Swenson.  St. John’s responded by putting up a four spot in the following inning.  Higgins found himself back on the scoreboard with an RBI double and shortstop Jace Jeremiah knocked an RBI single.  Both teams got on the board in the eighth.  Left fielder Paul Orbon lined an RBI double and right fielder Keegan O’Connor responded with an RBI single.  The St. John’s bats were relentless and tacked on three more runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by a solo blast by pinch hitter Jermaine White.  Quinnipiac continued to fight and put two runs on the board, one off a fielder’s choice and one off an RBI single by designated hitter John Heitzman.  St. John’s looks to make it six wins in a row and a series sweep on Sunday at 1:00 PM EST.

Stony Brook 2, College of Charleston 3

The Sea Wolves opened the scoring in the third inning via a sacrifice fly from right fielder Matthew Wright.  The Cougars quickly evened the score in the bottom half of the third with a long ball by second baseman Joseph Mershon.  Stony Brook was not startled and reclaimed their lead right back in the fourth with a solo blast of their own, this time from third baseman Evan Giordano, who is continuing his hot start to the season.  The Sea Wolves held the Cougars scoreless until the seventh when they eventually tied the game.  An RBI double by third baseman Luke Wood evened the score at two apiece.  The bats went quiet for both teams, and extra innings were needed to settle the score.  Center fielder Tyler Sorrentino knocked an RBI single which ended the game in the eleventh.  Ben Fero posted a strong start on the bump for the Sea Wolves, throwing 6.1 innings and only surrendering two runs.  William Privette was the winning pitcher and threw four innings of relief with five punch outs along the way and surrendered two hits without any runs.  These teams will play the final game of the three game set Sunday at 1:00 PM EST.       

LIU 4, Maryland Eastern Shore 5

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame with an RBI single from first baseman Alex McCoy.  The Sharks put up three on the board in the bottom half of the inning.  First baseman JC Navarro evened the score with an RBI groundout, and catcher Jack Power knocked a two-run RBI double.  Maryland got one run back in the third frame via alert baserunning McCoy who crossed home plate while his teammate was caught stealing. The Hawks then took the lead in the seventh. Right fielder Brantley Cutler reached on a fielding error which allowed the tying run to come home.  Center fielder Brian Cordell hit a two-run single which gave Maryland a two-run lead.  The Sharks rallied but only got within one run in the final inning thanks to second baseman Keniel De Leon who scored on a wild pitch.  Both teams received substantial starts from their pitchers.  Dominic Pieto threw six innings and gave up only two runs while striking out six for the Sharks. Winning pitcher Noah Covington, almost went the distance for the Hawks, tossing eight innings of three run ball. The Sharks look to prevent a series sweep Sunday at 12:00 PM EST.    

Hofstra

(Resumed game from Friday March 17th): Hofstra 1, William and Mary 15

William and Mary got on the board first in the second inning with an RBI base on balls and a two-run RBI single by center fielder Joe Delossantos ended the inning.  The Tribe put up two more runs in the following inning with two RBI singles, one each by left fielder Nick Lottchea and second/third baseman Corey Adams.  The Tribe continued to attack Hofstra pitchers and eventually increased their lead to thirteen by the end of the sixth inning.  Third baseman Ben Williamson was on the scoresheet multiple times during this stretch with a two-run blast and an RBI double. The Pride got their only run on the board in the seventh with a solo shot by first baseman Zach Bailey.  

In Saturday’s game, the Tribe once again got on the board first via an RBI single from Williamson in the third inning.  The offenses were tamed in this one, and both teams did not score until the ninth inning.  Right fielder Tank Yaghoubi knocked an RBI single in the ninth which extended the Tribe lead to two.  The Pride got one run back in the bottom half of the ninth but could not complete the comeback.  Catcher Kevin Bruggeman scored on a wild pitch which would be the only run the Pride tallied in the game.  William and Mary relied on three pitchers who all dominated to help secure the win.  Zach Tsakounis, Mike Weidinger, and Rojo Prarie combined for seven strikeouts, and surrendered six hits and one run (unearned).  Hofstra will be heading to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers in a two-game set beginning on Tuesday.      

Division-II:

Queens

Game 1: Queens 12, Bloomfield 3

Game 2: Queens 5, Bloomfield  3

The Knights’ bats came out hot and scored twelve consecutive runs in the first three innings (four in each frame).  Shortstop Francis Segarra woke the bats up with an RBI single in the first and designated hitter Anthony Fontana blasted a two-run shot to cap off the inning.  Right fielder Jorsixt Jimenez hit a bases clearing three-run RBI double in the second.  The third inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Segarra, who totaled two hits, three runs, and four RBIs in the opening game.  Bloomfield got on the scoreboard in the fifth with an RBI single by center fielder Sleiter Suriel.  The Bears tacked on two more runs in seventh with an RBI base on balls and an RBI knock from first baseman Tyree Bradley.  

In the second game, both teams only scored in the second inning. Bloomfield got on the board via a three-run shot from second baseman Christian Cruz. The Knights tacked on five in the second half of the frame which was kickstarted by a two-run RBI single by left fielder Reed Hoskins. An RBI base on balls followed that, and another two-run RBI knock, this time by second baseman Marc Cisco capped off the inning.  Danny Gargano secured his fourth save of the season by pitching 1.1 innings with three strikeouts to shut the door.  These two teams will face-off for another double header on Sunday beginning at 12:00 PM EST.  

Molloy

Game 1: Molloy 12, Dominican University of New York 4

Game 2: Molloy 8, Dominican University of New York 3

Molloy jumped out to an early lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by designated hitter Chris Peralta. The Lions tacked on two more runs in the second inning which was started by an RBI knock by backstop Stephen Collica. The Chargers got themselves on the scoresheet in the third with an RBI single from shortstop Peter Kiefer. The Lions then took over the game and scored eight consecutive runs.  The Lions first put up two in the fifth which was highlighted by a solo shot by Peralta. Then in the seventh, third baseman Aidan Larkin lined an RBI triple. Right fielder Tom Lebrecht hit an RBI double and center fielder Garrett Scavelli blasted a three-run shot. Dominican got back on the board in the ninth and scored three runs. Both Left fielder Davin Keddell-Tuckey and first baseman Stefano Libio hit RBI singles and a fielder’s choice capped off the inning.  Charlie Cucchiara posted another strong start and tallied his third win of the season by throwing seven innings of one run ball with nine punchouts.

In the second game, the Lions opened the scoring in the third inning with a three-run blast by Larkin who continued his momentum from the first game. The Charges tallied one run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Ty Gilligan. Molloy responded by putting five runs on the board in the sixth inning. Pinch hitter Anthony Manisero started the scoring with an RBI single and left fielder JJ DeVitto capped off the inning with an RBI ground-rule double. Dominican attempted a comeback in the final frame but fell short.  Gilligan got back on the score sheet with an RBI double and catcher Benjamin Avila hit a sacrifice fly. Molloy was led by another strong start on the bump, this time by Brian Morrisey.  Morrisey earned his second win of the season, throwing six innings and only surrendering one run. The Lions look to sweep the three game set Sunday at 1:00 PM EST.  

Division-III:

St. Joseph’s 19, Lehman 6

The Golden Eagles continued to destroy the baseball as they improve to 7-2 on the season. It was a busy day on the base paths, as they ripped 14 hits, drew 12 walks and reached on four errors. Ryan Decoursey went 3-for-6 with a HR, 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Paul Gugliuzzo added three hits and scored 3 runs. Multi-hit games from Joe Sanguedolce, Jake Giannico and John Thatcher. Anthony Cinquemani battled through command issues to earn the W. He went 4.2 innings, walked six and gave up six hits but he got the job done. They will host Kean on Wednesday.

Maritime 2, Baruch 1

Maritime 4, Baruch 2

Shane Sullivan went the distance in Game 1, allowing just 3 hits, 1 run while striking out six and not issuing a walk. Freddy Forgione got the offense going with an RBI double in the 1st inning. Baruch got their one run on a solo shot in the third by DH Rob Wakely. Maritime would take the lead in the 4th on a fielder’s choice and that’s all they would need. They only had five hits in the game, with 2 coming by DH Rob Copozzi.

In Game 2, Brandon Stanley continued his outstanding start to the season with another CG shutout. He allowed five hits and one walk with four strikeouts. He is now 4-0 on the season. Matt Milone’s three-run shot gave the Privateers the lead, they added a run on a solo shot by Michael Frazzetta.

USMMA 3, Sewanee 13

Sewanee scored 7 runs in the second inning off USMMA starter Kole Register and reliever Ed Lippert and never looked back. For the Mariners, they scored all three of their runs in the third inning thanks to RBI singles by Joey Zanetti, Jack Millen and Travis Leatherwood. That was all they scored on this afternoon. Danny Heck was their lone player with multi-hits. That concluded their Tennessee, they will be back in action against FDU-Florham on Wednesday at home.
