Holy Trinity Looks to Improve Off of Strong 2022 Season

by Nick Cipolla

Holy Trinity is another CHSAA school that is coming off of a good 2022 season and should not be taken lightly by the rest of the league. The Titans finished their 2022 season with a combined 15-6 overall record while sweeping or splitting 6 of their 7 league series while going 4-2 against the city division and a playoff berth.

Coach Dan Luisi feels that there is a lot of firepower on this roster and is very excited to get going with the season.

“This team is filled with really skilled baseball players, many of them will continue their baseball career at great colleges and universities”, said Coach Luisi, “But most importantly great kids and great families. I’ve watched many of them turn into some of the best players on the island. The culture our staff has instilled in this program will never change; the expectation level will never be lowered. We build disciplined, committed and accountable young men. We take a great deal of pride in who we are. As far as expectations for the upcoming season- we’ll let our play speak for itself.”

Holy Trinity has seen five players since the 2022 season began commit to Div-I or Div-II colleges. The list includes four returners but they will be without Sadier Vicioso (‘22) this spring as he will be playing ball at Stony Brook University.

The main strength of this group will be its leadership and experience as a good majority of the team has been here before and know what it takes to compete at this level. “Many of the players on this roster will finish their high school career being a 3-year starter”, said Coach Luisi, “We have a really athletic roster which allows a lot of flexibility when putting together a lineup or making in-game adjustments. Our players have worked really hard in the weight room this winter with our strength coach, they will be faster and stronger”.

Leading the way is player of the year finalist and LIU-commit Nick Delvecchio (‘23) and the Catcher of the Year winner Tyler Cook (‘24). Seniors, Brian Zweigbaum (Mainecommit), Kyle Kozlowski (‘23), Nico Quiroz (Jefferson University Commit), Sebastian Velasquez (URI Commit), and Sean Maddi (‘23) will also be big contributors to the Titans in 2023.

The pitching staff will be led by returning rotations arms Sebastian Velasquez (‘23) and Gabe Klarikaitis (‘24). A newcomer to keep an eye on is corner inf/C Andrew Heppner (‘24) as he looks to break out in a big way in 2023.

“Our players have worked really hard in the weight room this winter with our strength coach”, said coach Luisi, “they will be faster and stronger. We look forward to meeting the challenges ahead of us. The league is loaded this year from top to bottom, and should be a great environment for all. I Can’t Wait”!

The Titans will open up the season on March 17th with a scrimmage against Mount St. Michael High School. Following that scrimmage, they will play the defending CHSAA Champions Chaminade in an away game on March 28th.
