Yesterday was the final showcase of 2022. It was the Blue Chip Prospect Pitchers/Catchers Showcase at Prospect Sports. There is always a great turnout of players and college coaches and an event I always look forward to.
Below are the players that stood out the most to me during the event:
Evan Cabral (Garden City 2025)

Evan is very advanced and especially when you consider his age. He has great command and he has clean mechanics and generates a tight spin on his breaking ball. Not many high school pichers can throw a splitter like him, either. High-end Division-I potential with a starters’ build.

Needless to say, not many 10th grade left-handed pitchers with his current ability or his ceiling. Already 6’3 and sitting in the low to mid 80s with an effortless delivery, he should be a name every team in Suffolk County is familiar with. He throws strikes, he is an imposing figure on the mound. Pro potential.
Chris Messina (Commack 2025)

Messina is a high intensity player and that was very evident just in the bullpen session. He struck me as the type of player that will be a closer at a Division-I school in the south. I expect him to wreak havoc on hitters next season. Mid 80s from the left side plays – especially with the natural arm side run he showed. Division-I talent.
Lucas Miller (St. Anthony’s 2025)

Lucas is only in 10th grade and looked very advanced for his age. He had clean mechanics and a smooth arm action you typically don’t see from a high school player throwing at a showcase. He commanded his change up and had the same arm slot, arm speed and delivery. I see a very high ceiling.
Nick Berasti (Clarke 2024)

Berasti had the fastest heater in attendance and that slider was filthy as well. He’s a winning player, he helped lead Clarke into the County Championship this past season. He’s also a very good hitter as well. Obviously, the fastball is Division-I worthy, if he can command it more consistently, the sky is the limit.
Matthew Callaghan (Kings Park 2024)
I did not get video of Callaghan, unfortunately, but he was impressive. He stands 6’2 and was pounding the zone with 86-87 MPH heaters and he flashed a plus slider that would be devastating on righties. He looks like he could be a Division-I pitcher to me.
Calvin Adam (West Islip 2024)

I originally thought Adam was a 2023, but being a 2024 changes things a bit. With another year to possibly develop and add some velocity, he has plenty of upside. He throws strikes and West Islip pitchers are always very mentally tough on the mound.
CJ Griggs (Kennedy Catholic 2024)

Griggs was in our Axcess World Series tournament and he has a very high ceiling. Catchers with pop are an extremely rare commodity in this era. He has that smooth lefty swing that you hear about. I think he will be a Division-I player at a mid-major or a high-end Division-II starter.
Luke Russo (Bellport 2023)

Russo had a great season for the Clippers in 2022 and he has a toughness on the mound that coaches love. He pounds the zone and I’ve seen him pitch well on the road in a big game against Smithtown West which was impressive. I think he can be a Division-II pitcher at the local level.
Daniel Madsen (Babylon 2023)
Madsen is coming off an outstanding season for the Panthers in which he went 6-1 with a 1.07 ERA and just five walks. He’s the type of pitcher that can throw strikes in his sleep and coaches absolutely love that quality. Fastball was mainly 80-81. I think he can be a Division-III starter or Division-II reliever.
