Sharks Ride Big 4th Inning to Victory

by Nick Cipolla

Despite the cold weather, the Long Island Sharks didn’t let it bother their offensive production in last night’s victory over the Pat-Med Raiders.

The Raiders jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st as Gavin McMurray walked, stole second, and then scored on a throwing error as he was stealing third to make it 1-0 Raiders. The Sharks responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs to take a 3-1 lead. James Chandler tied the game at 1 with an RBI single, Logan Kirwin crushed a go ahead double to deep left field to knock in Chandler to make it 2-1, and Jacob Abran would get Kirwin in with an RBI groundout to make it 3-1.

Dylan Rubio gave the Sharks some cushion in the 2nd inning with an RBI single to left field to give his team a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd.

Despite being down three runs in the 4th inning, Pat Med wasn’t going to let the Sharks take this game without a fight. The Raiders would tie the game in the 4th thanks to some big hits from the heart of their batting order.

Gavin McMurray ripped an RBI double to left field to cut the lead in half. McMurray wouldn’t be on second base for long as Trevor Mosculsa would knock him in with a single up the middle to make it 4-3. CJ Torres would knock in the tying run with an RBI groundout, making it a 4-4 game heading into the bottom of the 4th.

The Sharks wasted no time in the bottom half of the inning, putting 6 runs up on the board to take a 10-4 lead. Jacob Shaw would knock in the go ahead run with an RBI infield single that was ripped hard and unable to be corralled by the Raiders third baseman.

Dylan Rubio would give the Sharks some cushion with his second RBI single to left field of the game to make it 6-4 Sharks.

A bases loaded walk and a passed ball allowed two more runs to score to make it 8-4. Logan Kirwin put the finishing touches on the inning with a two run double to deep left field, making it a 10-4 Sharks lead.

In the 5th inning, Pat Med would get two runs back as Trevor Mosculsa ripped a two out, two run single down the third base line to make it a 10-6 game. The Sharks would get one of those runs back. Justin Wood pushed the Sharks lead back to 5 runs with an RBI Infield single to shortstop to make it an 11-6 game.

The Sharks would hold Pat Med to no runs in the top of the 6th, securing the victory over the Raiders.
