Jordan Serrano’s Big Day at the Plate Headlines Owls Victory

by Nick Cipolla

Jordan Serrano (Stony Brook School) had a day today at the Medford Athletic Complex.

The newest transfer to the Stony Brook School wasted no time to let everyone know that the now former New Jersey product was for real in the Owls 11-1 mercy rule victory over Beast Black.

Serrano’s big day began in the first inning when he stepped up with runners in scoring position and one out. After he hit a foul ball about 500 feet, he would make an adjustment and hit the next pitch over the high wall in left field for a no doubt three run home run to give his team an early 3-0 lead.

Nick Lorfice made the score 4-0 in the first during a first and third situation where the man on first stole second and Lorfice broke for the plate once the catcher threw down to second base.

The Owls got one run in the second inning on a Shane Minkos sacrifice fly to make it a 5-0 game.

Beast Black would get a run in the top of the third on an E5 but that would be all the scoring for them in this contest.

It was all Owls from here and a big bottom of the fourth was what really put this game out of reach. Duke Commit and brother of MLB Pitcher Jayden Stroman led off with an infield single and Jordan Serrano would follow up Stroman’s at bat with a walk to put two men on for Jacob Gordon. Gordon lined a single into center field to score Stroman and Serrano to give the Owl a commanding 7-1 lead.

Nick Lorfice and Jacob Oakley would hit a pair of RBI singles in the same inning to make it 9-1 Owls in the fourth.

The fifth inning rolled around and once again Jayden Stroman got on base and allowed Jordan Serrano to come to the plate again with a man on base. Serrano was able to hit a ball in on the hands to the wall in left field again, this time it stayed in the yard for an RBI triple to make it 10-1 Islip Owls.

The game would end via mercy rule during the next at bat as a passed ball allowed Serrano to score from third to give the Islip Owls an 11-1 mercy rule victory over Beast Black.

Jordan Serrano’s 4 RBI performance tonight appeared to be an introduction to what is to come this spring at The Stony Brook School. A lot of talented high school athletes have thrived in recent years and Serrano is on the path to be the next big time athlete to attend SBS.
