East Coast Lumberjacks Roll to Run-Rule Victory

by Brian Honka

The East Coast Lumberjacks took on the South Shore Elite in the 16U Northeast Elite tournament.

The Lumberjacks would jump on the board early as they showed great plate discipline with the first 3 batters all working walks and scoring their runs on 2 hit-by-pitches and walks making the score 5-0. Michael Martinez would hit a 2-run single making the score 6-0 and he would come around to score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Keith Hall giving the Lumberjacks a 7-0 lead.

The South Shore Elite would get 2 runs back in the bottom of the first as they got 3 runners on and scored 2 runs via errors.

The Lumberjacks would continue to have great at-bats and get hits with runners in scoring position as Luka Sieger would hit a 2-run single and come home to score on a Jacob Schmultz single. Carter Dickinson would hit a Sac-fly to get another run home making the score 11-2. Michael would hit a double over the centerfielder’s head to bring home another run followed by an RBI single from John Lenord making the score 14-2.

The Lumberjacks wouldn’t let up in the top of the 3rd as they would once again have great at-bats from the top of their order with hits from Alex Chevinyal, Ayden Sorrentino, and Jacob Schmultz which would give the team a 20-2 lead.

The East Coast Lumberjacks would win the game as the game would be called at the end of the third inning because of the run rule.
