CT Hanks Yanks, Jurado Make a Statement in 7-3 Victory

by Nick Cipolla

It didn’t matter that CT Hanks Yanks went to the wrong complex before today’s game against Beast Black, they came ready to play.

In a 7-3 victory over Beast Black, they never trailed in this game as pitching, baserunning, and putting the ball in play with men on base seemed to be the keys to victory for Hanks Yanks.

Yadiel Alvaro opened the scoring for Hanks Yanks when he stepped to the plate with two men on. He hit a fly ball to right that would’ve definitely have scored one run via sacrifice fly, however the right fielder couldn’t quite come down with the ball cleanly, allowing two runs to score for Hanks Yanks.

In the second inning, Ediell Diaz was on third base in a first and third situation. The runner from second stole and the throw went down to second, allowing Diaz to break for the plate to make it a 3-0 lead for Hanks Yanks.

The Yanks made it 4-0 on a Yadiel Alvaro RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. A few batters later came Andrea Jurado, the starting pitcher for Hanks Yanks. Jurado would add a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0 Hanks Yanks.

Besides his offensive contributions, Andrea Jurado spun a gem for the Yanks. He went three no-hit innings with seven strikeouts while only allowing two runners to reach and neither runner got past second base.

Once Jurado was pulled from the game, Beast Black was able to wake up offensively and put 3 runs on the board in the fourth. Grant Olsen got the first run for Beast Black in with an RBI single to make it a 5-1 game.

A couple of batters later, Andrew McRoy cut the lead to two with a bases loaded, two out, two run double to deep left field to make it 5-3. However, that would be all Beast Black would get as the runner from first tried to score on the McRoy double but he was gunned down by a great relay throw from Hanks Yanks shortstop Luis Rodriguez to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, Hanks Yanks got two runs back on one play. Yadiel Alvaro hit a ground ball to first with the bases loaded, the throw came home but it was off line, leading for two runs to score on the error.

Hanks Yanks retired the side in the top of the fifth inning to end the game due to the two-hour time limit rules. This victory was a statement to every other team in the tournament, letting everyone know that they didn’t come across the Long Island Sound this weekend to tap out to the local teams.
