Pat Med and Sayville Tie in an Action Packed Game

by Nick Cipolla

It’s not often that a game can be both exciting and end in a tie, but that was the case in last night’s Town of Brookhaven 13u Fall Classic between the Pat Med Raiders and the Sayville Lightning

This exciting matchup was looking like a pitcher’s duel early on. Through the first two innings, Thomas Fleischman of Pat Med and Alex Matalevich of Sayville both worked into and out of trouble without surrendering a single run to keep the score tied at zero

In the bottom of the third inning, Sayville was able to draw first blood on a sac fly to left field by Brett Baumiller to make it a 1-0 game.

Pat Med would answer back with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Evan Picciano would tie the game at 1 with a 2 out RBI Single. The next batter, Thomas Fleischman, helped his own cause with a 2 out RBI single of his own that knocked in Picciano to give Pat Med their first lead of the game

Alex Matalevich saw what Fleischman did in the top half of the inning and he answered back with his own game tying RBI single to make it 2-2.

Sayville took a 3-2 lead in the fifth as Jake Arato would score on a wild pitch that hit home plate at a weird angle and bounced over the Pat Med catcher.

Pat Med had a big top of the sixth. They loaded the bases for Kellen Spooner and he would draw a game tying walk to make it 3-3. Evan Picciano continued his big day at the bat with a go-ahead 2 run single to make it 5-3 Pat Med.

The Raiders would tack on one more run with a first and third double steal that scored Kellen Spooner to make it 6-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

Sayville looked out of it heading into the bottom half of the inning, but that didn’t stop them from rallying and loading the bases with one out. Jake Arato stepped to the plate and he crushed a 3 run triple to deep left field to tie the game at 6.

Unfortunately for the people who wanted to see an end to this one, the two hour time limit was reached and the teams would have to settle for a tie.
