Sharks Rally Late, Take First Game of the Atlantic September Showdown Tournament

by Nick Cipolla

The LI Sharks found themselves trailing early in this one, however they wouldn’t go away easily as they rallied in the late innings to steal a game from East Hampton.

The East Hampton Bonacs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, 2 bases loaded walks and an RBI single by Miles Eckardt was how the runs scored.

In the bottom half of the 1st inning, Aiden Garcia knocked in a run for the Sharks on an RBI Groundout to first. Richard Roberts hit a double to deep left, stole third, and later scored on a passed ball to make it a 3-2 game.

In the top of the third, East Hampton loaded the bases again. This time, Thomas Perri would draw a bases loaded walk to push the lead to 4-2. The next batter hit a ground ball to first that wasn’t handled by the first baseman, allowing another run to score to make it a 5-2 game.

In the bottom of the third, we were treated to some Deja Vu. Aiden Garcia knocked in a run on his second RBI Groundout of the game to make it a 5-3 game. Richard Roberts continued his day with another double to deep left, stole third, and scored on a passed ball to make it a one run game.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Sharks began their rally. With runners on second and third, Justin Wood came through with an RBI Single to center to tie the game up at 5. Later in the inning, pinch runner Jacob Abran would score on a passed ball to make it a 6-5 game.

In the bottom of the 5th, Richard Roberts continued his day with an RBI Single to center to make it 7-5. One more run scored for the Sharks as Logan Kirvin laced a double to deep center that scored Roberts to make it 8-5.

East Hampton scratched one run across in the top of the sixth on a bases loaded hit by pitch, but that would be all they would get as Jacob Abran picked a runner off first with two outs to end the high scoring game.
