LI Titans Crowned 15U National Division Champions With 8-0 Win

by Chris Prystupa

The LI Titans-Robles became Boys Of Summer 15U National Division Champions as they shutout the Islip Owls 8-0 this afternoon. In what was a rather lopsided affair at Brentwood State Park, the Titans had it all working for them right from the very first inning.

The first two batters of the game would reach base on a single and a hit by pitch, setting the table rather early against Owls Jaden Schmidt. On an attempted first to third pick off move the Owls couldn’t find an out, leading to the Titans drawing first blood. Joseph Scarabino would proceed to line one over the Owls first baseman to bring home another run. To cap off the Titans three-run first inning, Joseph Hiller bounced into a fielder’s choice allowing another run to score.

In the top of the second inning, the Titans would continue to pad their lead over the Owls as they kept grinding out at bat after at bat. Brady McGowan lifted a towering fly ball to left deep enough to score his teammate on third. Brayden Hromada followed that up with a deep RBI double to put the Titans further ahead at 5-0.

The Titans would scratch a couple more runs across throughout the game courtesy of a Mike Francisci sac fly in the fourth and a few wild pitches/passed balls in the later innings. On the flip side the Owls had a tough time figuring out Titan’s starter Andrew Asaro. Asaro was extremely efficient throughout the entire game, mixing in good offspeed and letting his defense work behind him. He would go on to throw a complete game shutout stranding the bases loaded to close out the bottom of the seventh. The Islip Owls-Kneisel finished the season 16-10 and runners up in the division while Titans-Robles finished 14-10 and National Division Champions.
