In a quarterfinal matchup for the Blue Chip Collegiate League, the Long Island Storm prevailed over the Long Island Nor’easters in a see-saw style game. The scoring got started early for the Nor’easters as Jake McCarthy did an excellent job of hanging with a curveball and lined one into center field for an RBI single. After that run both starters, Ryan Shih and Frankie Collora would throw up zeros for the next few innings.
In the top of the third, Evan Diaz from the Storm, would launch a towering solo home run to left to tie the game at one a piece. Following that with a homerun of his own would be Anthony Matturo who blasted one into the trees breaking up the 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning. The Nor’easters wouldn’t let this go unanswered as they got to work in the bottom of the fourth. Will Bompey started it off with an RBI double tying the game at two. The very next pitch would head to the back stop allowing another run to score and the batter after that, Steven Kienzle would bring in a run on a deep sacrifice fly capping off the inning and now a 4-2.

The Storm would scratch just one run back in the top of the fifth as Dennis Lynch would smack an RBI single into the outfield. Later in the bottom of the fifth, the Nor’easters would gain an insurance run on a solo shot from Jake McCarthy to pad their lead to 5-3. This ultimately wouldn’t be enough for the Nor’easter’s as the storm came storming back in the top of the sixth. It started with a few hits and a walk to set the table for the heart of the Storm’s order. Evan Diaz added onto his day with a sacrifice fly to bring them within one. Mike Frazzeta, who already had two hits on the day, came through big time with a huge 2-run double to give his team the lead in the last inning of play. John Ohanian would close the door with a one, two, three inning in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory and a spot in Saturday’s semi-final round. Next games will be played on Saturday at William J. Bonomo field at Adelphi University starting at 2:15.
