LI Astros Cruise To 6-0 Win Behind Chang’s Strong Start

by Chris Prystupa

The Long Island Astros came away with a 6-0 win this morning over Team Beast Red in some Blue Chip Collegiate League action. Both teams’ starting pitchers would duel each other tossing scoreless inning after scoreless inning through the first three innings of the game.

Just when the hits seemed few and far between, the LI Astros began to set the table for a big inning in the top of the fourth. The first three batters got on base with a triple and two walks respectively. With their lineup starting to break through against Team Beast’s Mike Andrew, the Astros would explode for five runs and take a commanding lead. After a botched pickoff throw, Marcello Arrigo ripped a ball that the first baseman couldn’t get a handle on for an RBI single. Immediately following that play, a throw from the catcher for Team Beast got away into left field to score two more making it 4-0. Lou Peluso topped off the inning with a single to bring home the fifth run for the Astros, knocking Andrew out of the game.

On the flip side, Alex Chang was extremely dominant, preventing any Team Beast hitters from stringing hits together with his effective breaking balls. He would throw six scoreless innings striking out ten hitters from Team Beast in the process.

In the top of the seventh the Astros would tack on another run just before the third out was recorded, courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of Adrian Depena to make it 6-0. The Astros would then turn it over to Marcello Arrigo to relieve Chang and close out the game in the bottom of the seventh. Despite a leadoff walk, Arrigo would then proceed to strike out the next hitter and induce a line out good for a double play to end the game. With the win the LI Astros improve to 8-11-2 on the season as Team Beast Black falls to 8-12-1 with the loss.
