The B1000 Seminoles batted 13 players in their lineup on Saturday and were able to bat around in the second and third innings. By the time the third out was recorded in the third inning, they held a commanding 10-0 lead.
They took a modest 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Ryan Plocker, but the real fun began in the second inning for them. It all began with a leadoff walk – as is usually the case with big innings – to Aidan Amato. Starting pitcher Joe Bello, more on him in a bit, double to left field and the bases were loaded up with a walk. Paul Mata, who was a big part of South Side’s County Championship team in 2021, drew a bases loaded walk to bring in a run. That was followed with two more bases loaded walks drawn by Danny Fuentes and Anthony Ayala to make it 4-0.
With the bases still loaded, Nick Farnacci did what he does best. That’s lining a single into left center field to make it 6-0. There was a close play at third but the runner was called safe to keep the inning going. KJ Flores grounded out to first base to bring in another run and after a walk by Tim Dorman, the inning finally came to an end on a pop out to first by Ryan Plocker.
Working with the huge lead, Joe Bello was outstanding. He is typically a catcher, but was asked to pitch as the team was in need of some outs today. He went above-and-beyond, not only throwing zeros but also working quickly and throwing strikes. The Seaford product also had a nice day at the plate, hitting the double in the second inning, an RBI single in the third inning and a single in the fifth inning.
The only time he ran into any issues was in the bottom of the third when he allowed two runs to score with the runs coming on an RBI single and a fielder’s choice but at that point the game was all but over.
In the top of the fifth, the Seminoles added on a few more runs with the big blow coming on a two-run double to right field by Mata to score Amato and Bello. Mata had a great day at the plate. He is currently running track & field at Adelphi University.
Bello went back out for the fifth, allowing one run but closed the door on the complete game victory. With the win, the Seminoles improved to 4-4-2 in the LI Boys of Summer college division.
