LI Titans Asch Improve to 2-0 in Tournament Play With 7-4 Win Over LI Storm

by Chris Prystupa

LI Titans Asch earned their second victory in the Blue Chip Prospects Invitational Tournament this afternoon after they beat the LI Storm by a score of 7-4.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Titans started the scoring early as Matt Nowlan started the day off with an RBI single. Chris Piropato followed Nowlan up with a sacrifice fly of his own on which two runs scored on the throw.

The game would remain just 3-0 until the bottom of the third inning where the duo Nowlan and Piropato would come through again with another RBI single and an RBI fielder’s choice respectively. The Titans would cap off a three-run bottom of the third on a passed ball to extend their lead to 6-0 over the Storm.

In the top of the fourth, the Storm would begin to chisel away at the Titans’ lead thanks to some defensive blunders. A passed ball and a throwing error would give the Storm their first set of runs in this game. The Storm would continue to add on an inning later as Josh Cohen helped manufacture a run. He led the inning off with a single and stole two consecutive bases and finally scored from third base on a throw down to second. Patrick Flanegan followed this up with an RBI single cutting the Titans lead down to just two runs.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Titans would snag an insurance run courtesy of a throwing error on the short stop. This would be all the Titans needed as AJ Aschettino would come in relief and shut it down in the top of the seventh sealing the victory.
