A Tale of Two Games: Team Beast and Next Level Baseball Split Doubleheader

by Chris Prystupa

Team Beast Red and Next Level Baseball squared off for some Blue Chip Collegiate League action this morning at Adelphi University. In the second inning, starting pitcher for Team Beast, Russell Silverman, worked through some traffic and escaped a bases loaded jam. In the bottom half of that inning, Team Beast would open the scoring thanks to Ryan Desmond who hit a sacrifice fly to put them ahead 1-0.

Team Beast capitalized on a huge third inning. It started off with Rob Gregory drawing a bases loaded walk that would bring in a run. After that, two more bases loaded walks and a hit by pitch would be issued and Team Beast would be in business with a 5-0 lead. Andrew Schlomm followed up yet another bases loaded walk with an RBI single of his own to further the lead. Team Beast was not done just yet as Louis Carvell hit a ball that blooped in for a single that scored two runs to which Jonah Feinberg followed that up with a sacrifice fly. In rather quick fashion, Team Beast had now stock-piled a commanding 10-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Next Level would make some noise on a bases loaded walk, an RBI single from Joey Patane and an RBI fielder’s choice by Patrick Heber to cut the deficit to 10-3. Jory Lee broke into the hit column responding to Next Level’s attempted comeback by launching a two-run homer to left field. That would be all for the offense in game one as Team Beast would go on to close out game one in the next inning due to the time limit.

In game two of the double header, after a scoreless first inning Next Level would then flip the script and open up the scoring with an RBI double courtesy of Jack Coogan. Nicholas Milo would follow that up with an RBI single. Before Next Level could really add on, Jovani Reynoso, the catcher for Team Beast would nail the runner on third with a back pick to end the inning.

In the third innings Next Level would tack on one more, extending their lead to 3-0 on a Joey Patane RBI single. Team Beast would respond in the bottom half of the frame with two runs coming in on an RBI triple for Andrew Schlomm, who ended up scoring on the play due to an overthrow to make it 3-2.

In the bottom half of the fourth inning, Next Level exploded for eight runs as they took advantage of a multitude of walks and timely hitting with runners on base. Nicholas Milo made a productive out with an RBI fielder’s choice, Joey Abbate, Ryan Johnston, and Kenny Hirschfeld all contributed with RBI singles. This brought the score of the game to a commanding 11-2 lead for Next Level.

Patrick Heber would come on in relief for Next Level. He worked through some traffic and gave up two runs that came in on an errant throw but ultimately he closed it down sealing the deal for an 11-4 Next Level Victory. Team Beast is now 6-7 and Next Level improves to 13-2-1 on the season.
