Luke Girillo Dominates in Dodgers Nation Dovas’ Victory

by Nick Cipolla

To say that Luke Girillo (Manhasset) was on his “A-Game” in his most recent outing against LI Titans Pendl is a modest answer.

Girillo absolutely shoved today, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 9 batters in a complete game (6 inning) shutout, guiding Dodgers Nation to a 7-0 victory. He overpowered the opposing hitters with his hard fastball and kept them on their toes by mixing in a nasty changeup as well.

Dodgers Nation broke the game open in the first inning, after a leadoff walk by Justin Dumeng, Vincent Graff would knock him in with an RBI double to deep right-center to make it 1-0. Dodgers Nation would score their next two runs via passed balls. Graff would come around to score to make it 2-0 and the next runner to score on a passed ball was Aidan Morano who made it 3-0 Dodgers Nation.

Later in the inning, Jake Ward came up with the bases loaded and one out. Ward took advantage of the opportunity presented to him and hit an opposite field 2-run double to right field to make it 5-0 Dodgers.

In the second inning, Dodgers Nation got another run when Bryan Aguayo scored on yet another passed ball to make it 6-0.

Dodgers Nation didn’t get another run until the bottom of the 5th when Aidan Morano hit a comebacker that went off the Titan pitchers glove and into left field. Justin Dumeng scored from second base on the play to make it 7-0.

Despite the high scoring effort from his offense, Luke Girillo outshined his teammates as he took a no hitter deep into this game and when he did allow his first 2 hits, he didn’t allow a single runner to get passed second base and the way he was pitching, it made the other team feel like the game was over in the second inning.
