Here’s Jason Berthel from LI Elite, he takes us through what it felt like to be the one to close this game out and preserve the shutout in a 3-0 win over the Farmingdale Greendogs. @liboysofsummer pic.twitter.com/Li5hKyzvhD

It was quite a pitcher’s duel for both teams in tonight’s LI Boys Of Summer matchup between the LI Elite and the Farmingdale Greendogs. Both teams remained tied at zero through seven full innings.
The Greendogs sent Jake Dunn to the mound in the first and he and his counterpart, Joe Cavallaro, were both dominant throughout the early innings. In the third inning, LI Elite was yearning to get the scoring started as they managed to get a baserunner into scoring position early on in the inning. Jake Dunn never wavered as he induced a ground ball to third baseman Mike Kwas who threw the runner out at the plate. In the bottom half of that inning, Cavallaro responded by striking out the side, tallying another scoreless inning in the book.
Jake Dunn managed to escape trouble again in the top of the fourth inning. Another baserunner managed to make it to third for the Elite yet Jake Dunn induced a pop fly to the third baseman this time to end the threat. Cavallaro would go on to strike out two more in his final fourth inning of work bringing his total to six strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth, LI Elite would call upon Kiran Paingankar to keep the shutout intact. He did just that, firing two scoreless innings in relief with five strikeouts. Jake Dunn would seriously resemble a magician as he escaped trouble for the third time in this game in the top of the sixth. With runners on first and second he secured another out via a fly ball to right squandering another LI Elite opportunity.
Jake Dunn would go on to pitch eight full innings surrendering three runs after the Greendogs committed a critical throwing error and an RBI fielder’s choice by Jason Berthel. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Berthel would finish off the Greendogs in his second inning of work out of the bullpen shutting the door and capturing the shutout win.
