O’Neill, MVP Beast Claim Victory over Team Steel Scout 17U

by Nick Cipolla

MVP Beast made sure to kick off this weekend with a bang by beating Team Steel Scout 8-1 in 6 innings in the Blue Chip Prospect Father’s Day Tournament.

Despite winning by 7 runs, it wasn’t easy for MVP Beast. They were down 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning before they erupted for 4 runs in the inning and scored 4 more runs throughout the rest of the game.

Early on in this one, Nick Rizzo looked like he was on his A-Game for Team Steel Scout. As John Sterling would say, Nobody was beating the Riz early on as he struck out 5 batters in the first 2 innings while only allowing 1 hit.

Team Steel opened the scoring in the top of the third on an Anthony Rigogliosi RBI double down the left field line to make it 1-0 Team Steel.

Heading into the bottom half, MVP Beast knew they had to fight back and get something going against Rizzo if they wanted a chance to get back in this game.

With 1 out in the third inning, MVP Beast managed to load the bases and send their cleanup hitter, Brandon O’Neill. O’Neill made sure to take advantage of the opportunity presented to him as he hit a 2 run single back up the middle to make it a 2-1 game in favor of MVP Beast.

MVP Beast got another run on an E3 to make it 3-1. Later in the inning, Carmine Scardina worked a bases loaded walk to make it 4-1 MVP Beast.

In the fourth inning, Joe Burriesci got hit by a pitch, stole second and third, and later scored on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 5-1 MVP Beast. Justin Acevado would also score this inning on a perfectly executed double steal of second and home to make it 6-1.

Joe Burriesci did more than just score on an E2, he joined the RBI Party in the bottom of the 5th as he hit an RBI Single of his own back up the middle to make it 7-1.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, MVP Beast had runners on second and third and were looking to add on even more runs. They ended up getting a run in, but in a rather odd way. Joe Dimotta was awarded home thanks to a balk by the Team Steel pitcher to make it 8-1

Unfortunately for the fans, this game reached the time limit so we did not get to see MVP Beast close it out in the field in tonight’s contest. Despite that, MVP Beast made a statement to the rest of the field that they mean business this weekend, and they hope to be playing for a championship in a couple of days from now
