Titans Quattrini Make an Early Season Statement

by Nick Cipolla

The LI Titans-Quattrini are going to be a problem for many other teams this summer – if today was any indication.

The Titans came away with a 9-0 run-rule victory, showing a balanced attack up-and-down the lineup against Team Francisco Notorious 9.

Offensively, everyone in the Titans lineup reached base at least once in this early season Boys of Summer League matchup. Some notable performances came from Anthony Dinello who kept a big rally going in the third inning by hitting an opposite field 2 run single. Alex Golub was responsible for knocking in 3 of the 9 runs scored by the Titans. He hit 2 sac flies in his first 2 at bats and capped his day off with an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th inning. Matt Kurz had a really productive day on the basepaths, stealing 4 bases and was an integral part of starting the third inning rally that ultimately put the game out of reach.

Pitching wise, Jake King, looked really good through his 3 innings of work, striking out 5 batters and getting out of a 1 out, bases loaded jam with ease in his last inning of work. Lucas Mangnozzi was throwing some gas in his 2 innings of work, striking out 3 batters while not allowing a hit. Mario Lazzinaro came in for the 6th inning and he, like King and Mangnozzi, kept Team Francisco from making any progress against the Titans.

The pitchers also got some help from their defense, as the titans as a whole played a very clean game defensively, making it even harder for Team Francisco to get on base.

This Titans team is just the latest team in the LI Titans organization to show the Long Island Travel Baseball scene what it is made of, and if they can keep the ball rolling, they will be a dangerous team come playoff time.
