Saturday College Recap Powered by Orlin & Cohen

It was a light day of baseball on Long Island as inclement weather caused the cancellation of multiple games. In total, only one team played today, as Adelphi played a doubleheader on the road against The College of Saint Rose.

DIVISION II:

Adelphi 0, The College of Saint Rose 4 (7 Innings)

After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, Saint Rose struck first in the bottom of the second inning. After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for Vince Venditti, he reached on an error by Jack Wishner, allowing a run to score.

Saint Rose added three more in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 4-0 game. Jack McDonald scored on a sacrifice fly from Zephaniah Vaughn, and Josh Myers hit a two-run single to give Saint Rose all of their scoring for the game.

It was enough, as Randall Alejo kept the Adelphi bats at bay for the whole game. He pitched all seven innings, striking out eight batters and allowing four hits. He walked one batter and hit another, but was able to navigate these mistakes, keeping Adelphi off of the board. Nobody on Adelphi had a multi-hit game, as four players each recorded one hit.

Gavin Graff was impressive out of the bullpen for Adelphi, pitching three perfect innings to keep them in the game.

Alejo got the win for Saint Rose, and Andrew Williams took the loss for Adelphi.

Adelphi  8, The College of Saint Rose 6

Adelphi continued their scoreless streak in the top of the first inning, and Saint Rose took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nathan Toms.

Adelphi finally got on the board in the top of the second inning, tying the game on an RBI double from Johnny Catuosco. Saint Rose responded with three runs in the bottom of the second. Samuel Brioso hit an RBI single, Jack McDonald took a bases-loaded walk, and Toms hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game.

Adelphi brought it within one run on a two-run double by Tim Feliz, but Saint Rose got those two runs back in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run single from Tyler Osborne to make it 6-4.

Adelphi stormed back in the later innings, scoring five runs in the last four innings to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. They started with two runs in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Jose Matos and a bases-loaded walk by Matt Alifano. They tied the game in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Cipri.

They finally took the lead in the ninth inning, scoring two runs to make it an 8-6 game. Alec Maag gave them the lead with an RBI double and Cipri gave them an insurance run with an RBI groundout. Tommy O’Sullivan finished his relief stint with a scoreless ninth inning to give Adelphi the win and a doubleheader split.

O’Sullivan got the win in relief, and Vince Venditti took the loss for Saint Rose.

In total, teams on Long Island went 1-1 today. The remainder of the Skyline conference tournament has been rescheduled to next week, May 13-15.
