Sadier Vicioso Outduels Andrew Koshy, Holy Trinity Wins 5-1

What a difference a year makes.

Holy Trinity won 2 league games in 2021 and after yesterday’s convincing road win at Kellenberg, they are 8-2. But these past two weeks haven’t just been wins, they defeated two of the best pitchers on Long Island in Kyle Chase and Andrew Koshy. Two flamethrowing Division-I commits that would’ve given them fits last year – both wins for the Titans who are led by their own ace, Sadier Vicioso.

Vicioso, a southpaw, with big game acumen improves to 4-0 on the season after the 5-1 win. In the postgame interview, you can hear the tone that the Holy Trinity players have adopted. They are tired of being overlooked and beaten down, and they were prepared to do something about it.

They got on the board in the top of the second inning when Nico Quiroz walked and stole second. He advanced to third on Sadier’s ground out to the second baseman and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nicholas Mace – as Quiroz was able to beat the throw home. After a strikeout, Sean Maddi hit an RBI single to make it 2-0. That already represented an accomplishment – as the Wake Forest-commit Andrew Koshy has been lights-out for much of the past year-plus.

Vicioso battled some command issues in the home half of the second. He allowed a single to Peter Murphy and walked two batters, but he struck out a pair to strand the bases loaded. That was as close as they’d get to scoring off him.

The Titans added to their lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single off the bat of Quiroz with the drawn-in infield. Nicholas Mace added an RBI single of his own to make it 4-0. The fifth run came on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Kyle Kozlowski and an errant throw by the second baseman allowed the run to score.

Vicioso’s day was done after 5.2 as he exited with a 5-0 lead and gave way to Tyler Cook who escaped the inning.

Trouble did eventually come in the bottom of the seventh when Kellenberg got on the board with a bases loaded walk drawn by Steven Hardiman that brought the tying run to the plate with one out. Cook was able to strike out Peter Murphy and induce a ground out of John Kwiatowski to end the game.

The Titans improve to 8-2 and have emerged as a true threat in the CHSAA with the duo of Vicioso and Sebastian Velasquez atop of the rotation.
