Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting the top travel teams from 2021. Next up is the 12u Long Island Rebels. This could really be extended back to 2019 as they team has done an incredible amount of winning since their inception in 2019.
Here’s their records since then:
2019: 43-10
2020: 44-6
2021: 44-9 (spring/summer), 20-4 (fall)
What makes their success more remarkable is two things
- They are a small program with just this one team.
- They lost half of their roster last winter and needed to replace all of those players
This fall, they challenged the players by playing only tournaments. The boys responded in a huge way by winning most of those including one at Ripken and another at Lasorda Legacy Park where they overwhelmed their opponents and outscored them 31-2. They had other tournaments win where they outscored opponents 44-5 and 52-13. Truly an example of domination. And that’s against top teams.
Their biggest impact players is catcher Robert Mascia – who went off and crushed 24 HRs and batted a robust .619. We will have a feature story on him coming in the next week.
Coach Bob Mascia was elated when speaking about the team, and noted that in 2022 they already have trips planned in Florida, Texas and North Carolina. Congrats to them on all their success.
