Seminoles Sweep LI Empire in Regular Season Finale

by Nick Cipolla

Game 1

In what may be the final games of the year for the Batting 1000 Seminoles, they made sure to go out with a bang.

The Seminoles took Game 1 of the doubleheader over the LI Empire by a score of 2-1. The key to this game for the Seminoles was clean defense and two runs early in the game to set the tone.

In the first inning, the Seminoles put a man on and sent Andrew Bonnano to the plate. After fighting a couple of pitches off, he served a ball into center and made it a 1-0 game.

Nick Farnacci got his day going in the second inning with a 2 out RBI double to make it 2-0 Seminoles in the bottom of the second.

Farnacci’s RBI double turned out to be the most important RBI of Game 1 as LI Empire did get one back in the 5th when a runner from third scored on a passed ball that went all the way to the deep backstop at PAL Stadium to make it 2-1.

However, that was as close as Game 1 got as the Seminoles kept the Empire off the board the rest of the game and won the game with a final score of 2-1 Seminoles.

Game 2

Unlike Game 1, Game 2 was full of offense and runs scored by the Seminoles.

The game started off almost the same way Game 1 did. Andrew Bonnano opened up the scoring when he hit a ground ball to third that couldn’t be handled by the third baseman, allowing the runner to score from third making it 1-0.

Ryan Plocker hit a double to set up second and third, two outs for Aiden Amato. Amato came through with a 2 out, 2 run single to make it a 3-0 game in favor of the Seminoles

LI Empire did get the bats going in the top of the first, specifically from Matt Castrogiovanni. Castrogiovanni stepped up with a man on second and he hit a bomb into right field that looked like it was going to leave the yard. Despite a beautiful bat flip, the ball hit high off the wall for an RBI double to make it a 3-1 game.

The Seminoles tacked on three more runs in the second inning. Nick Farnacci walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-1 and Chris Petrillo crushed a 2 run double into right field to give his team a 6-1 lead.

In the top of the third, Andrew Bonnano scored from third on a balk to make it 7-1. The Empire would get this run back when Matt Castrogiovanni reached on an RBI infield single to first base with two outs in the bottom of the third to make it 7-2.

Just as you thought the Empire might start a comeback, Nick Farnacci put the game even further out of reach with a 2 run double to deep center field to make it a 9-2 affair. Chris Petrillo knocked Farnacci in with an RBI single to make it 10-2 Seminoles.

Matt Castrogiovanni did get his third RBI of the game for the Empire with a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 10-3 in the bottom of the fifth, but that was the last run to cross the plate on either side as the Seminoles retired the side in the sixth to complete the sweep in their season finale.
