East Islip, NY – The Islip Owls took home the victory in both games of a double header on Saturday in a 15u Boys of Summer matchup vs. Team Francisco Notorious 9 at East Islip High School.
Game one began at 9:00 a.m. with the home team Owls taking the field. Team Francisco’s batters got to work immediately against Owls’ starting pitcher Luca Centauro.
After a leadoff single from Adrien Cruz, Francisco’s catcher Vincenzo Buffolino drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly ball giving his team an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Gianluca D’Amico took the mound for Team Francisco and dealt a quick one-two-three inning.
Brady Kneisel evened up the score 1-1 with an RBI double for the Owls in the bottom of the second inning.
A pitcher’s duel ensued for the next two innings, with Centauro and Damico both not allowing a base runner.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, D’Amico found himself in a bases loaded, one out jam. Owls’ Cole Fesefeldt came up to the plate and drove in the go-ahead RBI single, putting his team up 2-1 after four innings. This lead would hold, and the Owls would take game one.

Game two began at 11:00 a.m. Jaden Schmidt took the mound for the Owls to face off against Team Francisco’s John Parpis.
After surrendering two consecutive walks, Parpis was helped by his defense when Schmidt grounded into an inning ending double play.
Schmidt kept Team Francisco quiet offensively for the entire game, while his team managed to provide him with ample run support.
The Owls went up 2-0 after an RBI single by Colin Haug in the top of the second inning and continued to put up runs well into the later innings.
With new Team Francisco pitcher John Franco on the mound, the Owls took advantage and put up five runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Schmidt would keep the opposing bats at bay to record the shutout victory 8-0.
