There was no shortage of offense for the Thunder this afternoon as they were able to get 16 runs across the plate in a mercy rule victory over the South Shore Tides.
After Nick Caroli led off the bottom of the first by reaching on a throwing error, Frank Stella gave his team a 1-0 lead with an RBI Single up the middle. Jake Burlock ripped a two run single of his own to make it a 3-0 affair with no outs in the bottom of the first.
The Tides finally recorded the first two outs when Sean Barodin hit an RBI groundout to make it a 4-0 game.
With two outs in the same inning and runners on second and third, the Tides pitcher made a curious decision to try and pick off the runner at second base. The result was not a good one as the ball skipped into centerfield, allowing the runner from third to score easily to make it a 5-0 game.
In the bottom of the second, Adam Franklin led off with a walk, stole second and made it to third on a Nick Caroli single. Franklin later stole home when he and teammate Nick Caroli pulled off a textbook first and third double steal, making it 6-0 Thunder.
Jake Burlock got his third RBI of the day with a double into the left center gap, making it 7-0 Thunder. Sean Barodin also had a three RBI day after he hit a two run single up the middle to make it 9-0.
The Tides got one back in the top of the third thanks in part to Jack Lantcowicz hitting an RBI single past third to make it 9-1. Unfortunately that’s the only run the Tides scored in this contest.
